Today we’d like to introduce you to Pollux King.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up in small town Wisconsin where the worst thing you could be was different. Music was the thing that kept me alive when I didn’t really want to be. I just wanted to sing. ALL OF THE TIME. As I grew up more, I realized I wanted to make music to help people who felt like I did.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I mean, I think being an artist means you’re always on the struggle bus in some way, shape, or form, haha. I grew up feeling like a total freak. I have anxiety, depression, adhd, ocd, ptsd… No one spoke about mental health. Or physical well-being. Once I grew up and had the courage to talk more about it, I realized just how many people were dealing with the same things. It was such a relief to know I wasn’t alone and that I wasn’t the completely useless idiot I was made to think I was.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
If you got this far, you can see talking about mental health is a big part of what I do. I think about the difference it would have made in my life if I had seen someone talking about all of this so openly. Collectively, we have A LOT to heal. And that’s never going to happen if we all stay in our shame corners, lonely and closed off from each other. I do IG Lives to talk about mental health a lot bring people on with me who need to talk. We all just share and let a few layers fall off. I try my best to write songs we can all relate to that make us all feel understood and seen.
Any big plans?
I feel like we’re all living in one gigantic BIG CHANGE right now, so every day is an adventure. A few songs coming out in the next few months, and a lot of new ones coming next year. Getting things set up for shows and music videos as soon as we can do it all safely. Really looking forward to playing and hugging everybody tight enough for us to all pop a rib out.
