Today we’d like to introduce you to Percy Brown.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Known as the self-proclaimed “The Most Charismatic Man” I am an American Actor, Podcast Host and Entertainer whose roots can be traced back to the vibrant and fast-paced city of New York City. Growing up in Foster Care at the age of six and being adopted at age 11, I struggled to fit in with my peers, but I quickly learned that I enjoyed Dancing, Writing and Performing. I honed my skills in chess for six years, beginning to compete at the local and national level at the age of seven. My creative passion eventually led to me pursuing acting at age 14 as a student at the Urban Assembly School for the Performing Arts, I was nurtured and mentored by the award-winning Epic Theatre Ensemble, whose exceptional work earned them recognition from none other than former First Lady Michelle Obama.
With acting as my main passion, I studied Shakespeare and performed Off-Broadway around NYC during high school, which led to me becoming a Theatre Major at St. Bonaventure University. It was there that I became an Irene Ryan KCACTF Nominee in 2017 due to my role as Horatio in Hamlet and I earned a BA in Fine Arts/Theatre, graduating in 2018, and was bestowed with the coveted Most Ideal Bonaventure Man Award. During this time, I also performed Card Magic for eight years, even performing a card trick for Season 8 AGT Contestant Colins Key. I’ve also become known for my multiple appearances on the popular YouTube channel Jubilee Media, with appearing in 5 episodes that has amassed over 10 million views across various platforms, Boasting an impressive resume of over 30 credits across Theatre, New Media, Commercial work, and Film, I expanded my creative reach by launching ThePrinceofFreshAir Podcast in 2020, a platform that has grown exponentially and now reaches global audiences. With availability on over 30 major platforms, ThePrinceofFreshAir Podcast is yet another example of my endless potential and unwavering drive for success.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Growing up in Foster Care with my three younger brothers at the age of six, I struggled a lot with my identity. Not having a lot of confidence in myself, constantly being picked on by other kids and struggling to find people who didn’t ridicule me or seen me as an easy target to be bullied on was a struggle. It wasn’t until High School where I came into my own self and realize that there was more to me than I ever thought. Whether it was from Foster Care, the Podcast to Acting, many people doubted me and didn’t support me. Many people thought I was going to be another statistic in the foster care system and that I wasn’t going to amount to something. Dealing with rejection and constant negativity is a huge thing, even something I deal with today. People only see what I do as a “hobby”, or I need to get a “real job”, not knowing how my work is helping and impacting people in positive ways. Ultimately, I didn’t get my self-respect and confidence until I was about 22 when I stopped trying to impress people and prove people wrong, which I credit to my time working at my college Warming House, a soup kitchen dedicated to serving the local community, the less fortunate, homeless and even mentally ill. I got to work alongside veterans, drug addicts, recovering addicts and many other people who taught me valuable lessons about life and motivation.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’ve been acting for 13 years, performing in Theatre for the first eight years from 2010 to 2018. Since then, I have switched to TV/Film, where I have appeared in multiple films and productions and amassed over 30 professional credits. Besides my Irene Ryan KCACTF Nomination, some of my work on IMDB that I am proud of is Accept the Call and Third Week, two films with a deep meaning and a story that is relatable to not only me but the viewers. I am also known for my Five appearances on YouTube Channel Jubilee Media, who has over 8 Million Subscribers. Some of my favorite episodes include Spectrum: Do All Black Men Think the Same, Middle Ground: Online Dating vs Traditional, and upcoming episode Ranked: Alpha Males.
In 2020, I created my podcast ThePrinceofFreshAir, which is a podcast dedicated to talking about a variety of cultural and societal issues with guests ranging from Celebrities, Working Professionals to the average person while blending a boatload of Charisma with Comedy to have fun but engaging discussions. As The Most Charismatic Man, I believe what sets me apart outside of my unique and signature hair is my charisma and ability to entertain people. Ultimately, I am always humble and I aim to spread positivity no matter if I’m behind the mic or in front of the camera. My slogan is “A Helping Hand, Is a Better Hand”.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Risks are a part of life; every decision we make has risks. I think for me, risks has been a huge factor in my life, both on or off stage as I see it as betting on myself for success. Whether it’s building a with a character, talking about certain subjects on the podcast, making choices for a scene in the audition room, I constantly take risks because sometimes playing it safe won’t get you the results you want. One of my major risks is moving from NYC to LA in 2019 a year removed from college. With no connections and no job lined up, I made the move to advance my career while also challenging myself outside my comfort zone. In order to be successful, you have to make decisions that you may not be comfortable with but is necessary. Moving across the country to chase a career for some may seem stupid, but the reward may be even greater than we know. I’m glad I made that choice because I was able to secure my Agent, learn about the business, learn and discover myself as a young adult, and I stopped being stagnant and content with life in NYC. I may not be a gambler, but I will bet the house on myself!
