Daily Inspiration: Meet Melodía Olivas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melodía Olivas.

Melodía, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?

I became inspired by freezing a moment in time with a camera at a young age. My high school years were spent hiding behind a camera and doing photoshoots of my friends everywhere we went. I used photography as a way to identify how I was feeling, and create images that told that story. At 18, I had my first (of many) art shows in Downtown Fresno, and remember the feeling of seeing my work printed big. Shortly after, I began capturing weddings and developed a love for authentic storytelling moments. Fast forward 10 years later, I am still diving heart first + cashing after what I love to do; to evoke joy, love and nostalgia with photographs + video. Photography has opened many doors in my path to understanding worlds such as real estate, social media marketing, and e-commerce. Outside of my photography business, I’ve been able to pursue my own vintage apparel + home goods store called Mariposa Finds. Here, I am the CEO, photographer, seeker + designer for a brand focused on sustainability and the extra ordinary.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?

The road has not always been easy, especially as a queer, female creative. What keeps me going is staying anchored in gratitude and focused on my own path. I have found the things that seem disruptive, always end up being blessings in disguise.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?

I am currently focused on love stories, brand, and product photography. My art isn’t always conventional and I certainly don’t follow all of the rules. But to me, that’s what makes a photograph authentic. To date, my photos have been featured in online articles of Forbes, Cosmo and Alaska Airlines flights. I hope to continue to follow my camera where ever it may take me.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?

I believe we make our own luck. Seemingly “bad luck” ‘moments have turned into magnificent milestones in my career.
