Daily Inspiration: Meet Kayla Bohan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Bohan.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I developed a burning desire to pursue music and acting from a very young age. My mom started taking videos of me in “A day in the life of Kayla” which was a lot of fun and gave me a great start in the process of performing and filming for my friends and family. The more I performed the more I wanted to continue to express my feelings using music through acting as the medium. I’ve always felt like there is a door to an artistic life and you only need to find the key. Once you open the door, you don’t want to go back to the past. Although I may have just stepped through my own door, there might be 10,000 more steps ahead. I am happy to take this challenge and climb upward. I can already feel that the future is very bright. I have always been inspired by movies and books where the main character helps other people solve problems using their natural talents and passion. Even as young as four, I started acting out the scenes of the characters I was inspired by. My mother took notice of my interests and because she wanted to support me, she created the path that I’m on now where I continue to develop my talents in acting and performing. In my new feature film HARPER, I play the lead character and as an 11 years old in a leading film role like this, it is both amazing and rewarding. Our film had an Academy Consideration run in local Hollywood theaters recently and in the Spring the film will be distributed for everyone to see. This is all very exciting and part of my path forward.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I was very moved by HARPER, the character I played and because I wanted to do it well but I did have some difficult moments. When I was not on set, I would often wear tattered clothes and pretend to be wandering in the forest like Harper. Even when my mother asked me to eat, I told myself not to eat because Harper would have nothing to eat. The filming took more than a month, and in addition to wearing tattered clothing, we lived in a remote village and that kind of life was not at all like my home. And then when filming ended, I felt very sad to leave Harper. My whole heart was hollowed out because I felt so close to the character. It took me a while to become myself again after playing this role. The challenges of filming and my own inner growth were part of the moments of difficulty … but I did it. I learned a lot from Harper. She taught me to be strong, never give up, and always show kindness to other people. These are the most beautiful things in the world.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
In addition to acting, I am a singer/songwriter. I enjoy writing original songs and I put a lot of my emotion into every word. I have a YouTube channel with over 18 thousand subscribers and I get a lot of positive and heartwarming comments from my fans which inspires me to create more music. And on my Instagram, I post photos for my 83 thousand followers who engage with me. They all really enjoy my music and what I am doing in film.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Determination and motivation.
