Today we’d like to introduce you to Eva Hamilton.
Hi Eva, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I came from a theatre background and really fell in love with film after working on a few films and music videos while in high school and college in Arizona. I grew up watching indie films, particularly from the late 90s and early 2000s; I deeply loved that form of art and the craft involved. I also just always loved the horror genre. When I moved to LA, I started working quite a bit in horror films, made a name for myself as somewhat of a scream queen, and have continued working in that genre as well as others. It’s all just continued from there. I feel very lucky to be doing what I love.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
There were plenty of struggles along the way. I moved here without having any industry connections and really just followed my dream. It wasn’t easy most of the way, but it was what I had to do. I love acting, but it’s also just that thing I HAVE to do, if that makes sense. It’s the thing that feels like home, like where I belong. I’ve always felt that. So that’s what I did.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an actor. I work a lot in the horror space, which I absolutely love. I’ve expanded into other genres as well, but always love continuing to work in horror. I’m probably best known currently for Shudder’s RUIN ME and DEATH KISS, as well as the recently released adventure/ romantic comedy QUEST FOR LOVE – and as far as upcoming work, the long-anticipated sequel to the 80s cult classic slasher film THE MUTILATOR (MUTILATOR 2 – coming soon).
I also recently produced and starred in THE SHED, an award-winning short horror film which is currently making the rounds on the international festival circuit. I’m working on a new series as well – “ALANA DARKCHILDE” – which I’m a driving creative force behind. It’s a horror/ comedy-based character in the vein of Elvira and her story will be ongoing.
Although acting takes up the vast majority of my time, I’m also a Certified Hypnotherapist with a small hypnotherapy practice, which allows me to delve into the human psyche in another way. I’ve always been passionate about helping people, and find that this is a powerful tool that can bring about significant change. What I love about it is actually quite similar to what I love about performing: in the simplest sense, being able to make someone feel something. It sounds so basic, but let me tell you, it’s magic. Whether it results in personal transformation, seeing something familiar from a new perspective, or simply a sense of being understood, it’s the backbone of art and the background of healing. In my experience, it’s hard to have one without the other.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
LA has truly incredible opportunities in so many ways. It has cool, diverse neighborhoods and places to explore, plus a fascinating history. It also has the best horror/ Halloween culture I’ve found yet (always a fan of that!).
I don’t particularly like the celebrity culture that often feels omnipresent here. I’m not into exclusive clubs, trendy restaurants, and the see-and-be-seen mentality. I love making art; I don’t care for the status displays.
