Today we’d like to introduce you to Minor Strut, a local band that shared their story with us below.
Minor Strut is an Alternative Rock Band from Southern California. We are based in the Inland Empire and have played professionally since 2014. Our band members include Coryn Cahill (Lead Vocals), Ethan Nguyen (Guitar), Aiden Kunhardt (Drums) and Marquis Miranda (Bass). The band was formed in 2014 with Ethan, Aiden and a few other musicians from Rockstars of Tomorrow, a musicians academy in Norco, California. A few years later, Marquis joined the band, and finally Coryn in the fall of 2019.
Although we weren’t initially in the same band, we all knew each other and always supported each other’s projects. We feel lucky to now be working together. It has clicked from day one and we have grown a lot.
When we got together in 2019, we were really excited. We had a lot of work lined up, started writing music, played The NAMM Show in January, and thought 2020 was going to be an amazing year. Then in March everything closed down due to COVID. Although it was difficult, we took that time as an opportunity to slow down, focus, and get some work done. Today, we have eight original songs completed and are in the studio recording our first single. We are really looking forward to releasing our music and sharing it with everyone.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
As with any working relationship, things can be difficult. We have had lineup changes in the band, and it can feel like you are staring over. We have all gone through that in the past, but it has helped us grow and adapt. Being older and more mature helps as well. We were all pretty young when we first started playing instruments and joined bands. As you get older, you figure out who you are and what you want. This band works really well together and plays off each other’s strengths. We know each other’s parts, how to contribute, and it works.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We love playing live and are really excited that venues have opened up once again. Through the years, we have been very fortunate to play legendary venues and festivals in California, Arizona and Hawaii. We have also shared the stage with some amazing artists like Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Gregg Bissonette, Everlast, Duff McKagan, John Tempesta and Jonny Two Bags. We feel our shows are a lot of fun and we love seeing people enjoy our music. It is really a great feeling. Please keep an eye on our website and social media for upcoming shows. Off the stage we enjoy hanging out together, playing airsoft and going out for boba. Individually we have varying hobbies, including photography, cars, plants, traveling, and many more.
