Today we’d like to introduce you to Emil Gasparian.
Hi Emil, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
In 2008, my passion for photography ignited when my wife and I stumbled upon a local mall photo studio. We decided to capture a Christmas picture with our little puppy. However, upon receiving the overpriced and low-quality prints, we realized that not all photographers are created equal. Of course, we were comparing the images to our wedding pictures since we had our wedding less than a year ago.
As newlyweds, we feared that this dilemma would continue when we have children and many more events to capture. So, we asked ourselves, “Can we do it ourselves?” And thus, our photography business was born.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Becoming a wedding photographer is not a smooth road. It requires hard work, dedication, and a lot of practice. Wedding photography is a competitive field, and standing out among the competition can be challenging.
To become a successful wedding photographer, you need to have excellent photography skills, as well as people skills to communicate and work well with clients. You need to have a good eye for capturing special moments, be able to handle difficult lighting situations, and have a keen sense of timing.
I believe the most daunting obstacle is establishing your presence and gaining recognition. Buying the expensive equipment and mastering the art of photography is much more straight forward compared to brand recognition that you need to succeed in the world of photography.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We specialize in Wedding Photography. Photography is our passion and our goal is to make sure clients are happy. “Clean” “Contemporary” and “Gorgeous” are some descriptions of our photography. Having said that, we’ve been fortunate to photograph other events such as engagement parties, birthday parties, portraits, business products and corporate events throughout Los Angeles.
I’ve been told not just by clients but by other photographers that I capture people very candidly, and that sets me apart from most others out there. I have a dedicated gallery one my website with just candid shots or people.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Finding a true mentor is really important in this highly competitive field. Many photographers do not honestly disclose the tips and tricks of the business. Many times they see newcomers as free assistants in return for their mentorship. Therefore, it is unfortunate but true that I’ve never had a mentor.
