Daily Inspiration: Meet Billy Guan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Billy Guan.

Billy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up in the Bay Area and went to a very culturally diverse high school. I had quirky interests and studied Magic and sleight of hand as a hobby back then which led me to meeting a lot of cool people that were affiliated with the Magic Castle. As I went to college, that hobby allowed me to network with a lot of different people and eventually, I linked up with a very successful entrepreneur that was featured in Magazines and Bestselling books. I somehow left an impression on him and we worked together on a business project. After the conclusion of that project, he reached out to me to see if I had interest in working in the Financial Services industry with him. I had my faith in my mentor and began my journey working with him in the financial firm he helped to grow. Through working in this industry, I’ve connected with a lot of amazing people in the LA area and my business also grew in LA/SoCal. I’ve now been working as a Financial Consultant for the last six years and it’s been an amazing ride. I was fortunate to have met Tim Grover, who is Kobe Bryant’s (RIP) trainer, through this industry, and have been featured in Yahoo Finance and International Business Times regarding my work in helping families protect their Financial Futures.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There were definitely many challenges in building my business in the financial services industry. There was a lot of learning curves and growing pains that I had to push through. Luckily my mentor held my hand through the hard parts until I was able to take the training wheels off. No road in Entrepreneurship is ever smooth. I’ve had situations where I worked really hard on a deal just for it to fall apart or the client decided to work with someone else. Getting ghosted or rejected happens a lot in this industry, which is totally fine. I’ve been through worse situations before so when a client tells me “No”, it doesn’t hurt me. Back when I performed magic, I’ve bombed shows and things did not go well live and in public before. A “No” is nothing compared to that. My approach to business is also more about serving and helping families. Most of what I do is based on education first and I am never pushy with sales. I hate it when people come at me with “Commission Breath” so I make it a habit to make my clients feel like they are not just a transaction. I treat my clients like partners because when I work with their retirement plans, that’s a 20-30 year commitment. There has to be a partnership there. If they decide that we are a good fit and they believe I have something of value to offer, that is when we lock arms and work together.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a Junior Broker at my Financial Firm. I do a lot of Financial Planning for my clients. From reviewing their current investment portfolios to protecting their assets from ever losing money like back in the 2008 Financial Meltdown or even in 2020 during the Pandemic crash. I specialize in Tax Free Retirement strategies, Wealth Transfers, Estate Planning, Asset Protection, Strategic and Creative Wealth strategies. I’m very proud of all the lives I was able to impact because I got into this industry. I’ve had situations where people reached out to me and say because of what we did for them, they can sleep peacefully knowing that they did not lose money when the market crash happened. We saw scenarios where people that were older lost about 33% of their retirement fund in a week when that crash happened. Being able to prevent situations like that from happening to people before it even happens…and then seeing their relief knowing that their financial security is intact…that’s a great feeling. What sets us apart is that we truly do care about our clients. We don’t say it to be cliché either. We customize plans for each client because personal finances cannot be a cookie cutter approach. We make sure that the plan is simple and easy to maintain for the client because ultimately it is financial habits that make people successful. If it is convoluted or difficult to maintain those healthy financial habits, the client will fall off and that’s not conducive to success for the client or for me.
