Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Bowden.
Hi Ashley, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hi there! I’m a Los Angeles-based Pop Culture Expert and Entertainment Host. I actually have a BA in Journalism, so I have always known this is what I wanted to do. I got my career going by betting on myself and starting my own Podcast, from there I continued to build my brand and skills.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Whew! Definitely not a smooth ride, but well worth it. Cliché as it might sound, anything worth having is worth fighting for. The world of media is such an open space these days, that it can present a challenge when it comes to finding your lane and the best way to utilize your voice and present your message, but once you do – the world is yours! On a more mundane level, booking interviews can also present some challenges, with scheduling and cancellations but honestly, I don’t mind it at all. When you’re able to embrace the challenges as a part of the journey, you know you’re on the right path.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Journalist and Host. My recent work that I’m most proud and excited about is, currently I’m a regular Guest Host for TMZ Live where I provide commentary for the latest pop culture trending topics. I did the weekly press line for Fox’s So You Think you Can Dance Season 17, where I interviewed contestants and judges (Twitch, JoJo Siwa, Leah Remini, and Host Cat Deeley) after the show. I also just wrapped NBC’s The Voice coverage where I also interviewed the contestants weekly. On Afterbuzz TV, I hosted aftershows like Bravo’s Southern Charm and TLC’s 90 Day Fiance drawing in approximately 50K views per episode. We interviewed the cast members of the shows and engaged with the audience by unpacking the weekly show content.
I also hosted Black Hollywood Live’s Spotlight On interviews, where I’ve had the opportunity to sit down one-on-one with musical artists such as Jon B., and comedians including Guy Torry and more, reaching roughly 45K YouTube subscribers.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
My personal mantra is, take calculated risks! My formula is prepare/research as much as you possibly can, pray, and make your move. Sometimes you just have to step out on blind faith going into things. It’s easy to cower in fear and stay stuck, but there’s no victory in that. With taking risks, you’ll either get the desired outcome or you’ll learn a lesson. Either way, you win!
