Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrienne Reeves.
Hi Adrienne, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Being born and raised in Atlanta, I learned quickly that no one was going to hand me anything. I had to create my own opportunities and set my own table for others to sit at. With the help of education, experience, and my mentors, I learned all about music publishing, distribution, different types of deals, and how to close them. After accomplishing a platinum record, producing many events and shows, and placing music for hit network, The Zeus Network, I felt it was time to take my brand to the west coast! Not only was this an opportunity I had to take, but it just FELT GOOD.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
My journey has been everything but smooth. Some of the most challenging experiences include letting go of jobs that didn’t value me or serve my creative abilities. Though it was a tough choice to leave, I knew it was the best choice given the accomplishments that I want to achieve and the reputation I want to set for myself. Another (fun) challenge for me is building my team! The best way to navigate the industry is by building genuine relationships. Sometimes those you want to be in your circle are the very people who can’t go with you, but as long as you accept that, then all will be ok. Then there are those who are loyal, communicative, trusting, and have the same vision as you – those are the people I want to work with. I’m grateful to have a team who loves what they do and wants to make history. I can always rely on them to get the job done and present the best product and that is more rewarding than anything.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Versa Library is a multimedia library that produces original content such as music and shows that live on both big and small platforms. We work with a unique and exclusive group of creatives that are independent and versatile. We pitch their work to be placed on TV, film, video games, and major label albums. We are known for working on popular reality series, Zeus Network’s “Baddies”. We’ve also worked on shows such as Vh1’s “Love and Hip-Hop Atlanta,” ABC’s “The Rookie Feds”, and SoundCloud “First on SoundCloud.” In 2023, Versa will debut original-produced series “9 To 5” that will premiere on Fanbase app.
Based on my experience, here’s what works for me for landing a major deal or contract:
1. Use your resources. Most times what you are looking for is already within your reach. Your relationships are your most valuable assets. Cultivate and build on the ones you already have and go from there.
2. Have a product. In order to have a product, first you must do the work. Whatever the idea or project you are working on. Finish it. The key, however, is to sell whatever product that is. You can always release it on your own, but the business way to go about it is by selling it to someone that needs your product or content.
3. Lastly, perfect your pitch. If you have the best product, be ready to explain why via email and/or in person. Your ideas are one of a kind, so you should be able to present in a concise and informative way that others are easily able to follow along to and explain why it would benefit them. Practice your pitch and don’t be afraid to share it with those you feel can take it to the next level. Besides, closed mouths don’t get fed.
