Conversations with Mimi Amaral

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mimi Amaral.

Hi Mimi, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
First, allow me to thank Voyage LA for following up with me to see how I have been progressing; I am truly grateful for another opportunity to share with them and their readers. To read the first article follow this link: Daily Inspiration: Meet Mimi Amaral – Voyage LA Magazine | LA City Guide

As a child, I was continuously ill contracting colds, flues, viruses, and presenting with other symptoms. Then at approximately fifteen, the doctors said that I was going to die, from multiple congenital medical conditions. The doctors said the prognosis was six months, but when the six months came and went, and I did not succumb to the illnesses, the doctors were shocked. From that moment on I became a human science project for Western Medicine until approximately nineteen and a half when I stated, “I’m going to live to live or live to die,” and walked away from the way everyone else saw my life unfolding. I share a little bit of this in a presentation titled: Dare to Disagree, it may be viewed at: Mimi amaral – YouTube

From that point forth, my path took me on a journey I could not have fathomed in my wildest dreams, which included experiences along the whole spectrum from shadow to light. Every step and experience brought the opportunity and choice to learn, face, feel, heal, and grow; I embraced all of it and to this day continue my aspiration toward expansion on all levels. That said, life is not solely about our own journey but also about giving back along the way. I feel blessed to have been able to write five books with the aspiration to witness anyone who may feel unseen, alone, and who may want to heal along their journey. Each book brings light to subjects that have been in the shadows and have been societally Taboo for too long. These books went #1 Amazon best sellers list and are currently available to buy on Amazon. The books can also be viewed on my website at: Mimipsy-D – Non Fiction, Author, Docu-Series.

Additionally, I have been fortunate to be able to encourage and empower individuals through other forums such as: podcasts, radio, articles, and speaking at community events. One incredibly special podcast I recently was a part of with Kelsey Harper: Initiated Survivor discussed experiences of sexual assault, my personal experience, and my choice not to report. That podcast may be reviewed at: Carving Your Own Path with Mimi Amaral – Initiated Survivor | Podcast on Spotify. I chose to share my experience because I have always felt a deep connection with Human beings, and if even one moment of holding space, or something I may say, could allow one to feel seen, heard, safe, or plant a healthy seed that may empower one along their journey, it is time well spent.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Personally, I believe it is a fallacy to think of life as hard or easy; for me, it is more of a spectrum that encompasses everything. It is always beneficial to remember that no one is immune to growing pains. Each gifted breath and step bring choices that carry us along our journey, which will bring both lessons and blessings, and it is our responses to these encounters and bridges that evolve us as human beings. So, I welcome the path as it unfolds and do my best to face, feel, heal, grow, and change so I may pass the wisdom and love forward rather than the pain. For me, I have implemented this approach in all areas of life from love to business and it has worked well thus far.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Well, if I were to guess society would label my work description as: Author, Journalist, Speaker, and Clinical Psychologist, but I do not adhere to labels so I just say, “Human no better or worse than any other,” and I continue to just be the best human I can and empower others while I walk my journey of life. Additionally, since 2011 it has been a blessing to walk with and be caregiver for both my parents during the last stage of their life; father passed of cancer August 2013, and mother is chronically ill but still holding strong, comfortable, peaceful, and without pain.

I have developed a website that has an empowering or self-help vibe, and for anyone who may want to begin their journey of healing and do not know how or where to start the site offers points of reference. The website also has the names to each book I have written and covers subjects from health, wellness, and spirituality to abuse, addiction, grief and so much more. Please be advised that the website is not a substitute for mental or medical professional help and anyone who reviews it who feels they are having a medical emergency should call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.

Finally, I have challenged myself to face my biggest challenge, or what I call fear, which is singing and placing it in the public eye. To listen to the acapella song follow the following link: Facebook. I believe self-actualization and walking through my own fears is a continual process and I will challenge myself to evolve to my last breath of life. As for other aspirations, I am currently trying to figure out how to get the books turned into network docuseries for Netflix, Hulu, Disney, or Amazon. Lastly, I would be honored to be a presenter for a TEDx talk someday. But everything all in time… I always say Cosmic Alignment and Divine Guidance…

To view all the books, podcasts, articles, radio spots, my life story, and so much more go to my website at: My aspiration is to witness and help someone understand they are not alone; I hope something on the website empowers someone. Gratitude and Empowering Energy to all…
