Conversations with Kushagra Jain

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kushagra Jain.

Hi Kushagra, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started to photograph things in India when I was a kid. I still remember my family was having one Kodak Kc30 film camera. I usually grab that and start playing with it and one time it clicked and I got to know I took that photo when it got developed since then photography had my attention. Then I bought Samsung digital camera I photographed my newborn sister with that camera since then, where ever my family was going my camera was with me. Year by Year, my interest in photography got deeper. When I was studying in college, I bought my first professional DSLR. Since then I am photographing everything my friends, family, landscapes, travel photos and etc. I just thought, why not to take this as a professional thing when I am passionate about it so I took admission in a Photography course in NYFA Los Angeles, USA. Now I am in Los Angeles, Hollywood as a student of photography in the New York film academy Los Angeles. Here I am learning the practical and technicality of photography on my new camera, which is Nikon Z9 and Sony A7R3. I am mastering my skills in Portrait photography, Behind the scenes photography, conceptual photography and studio lighting.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a smooth road for me because my parents were there to support me in all things. I chose to come to the USA for to master my skills in photography so I can become a professional photographer. My father asked me you sure coz I was taking a huge risk because I was about to invest alot of Indian rupees for my school and as in the artist field it requires dedication and networks to work in the field and I didn’t know anyone here in LA. It was a new place and a new start for me. We both sat down and had a father-and-son talk and I decided to move to Los Angeles to master photography and to gain control over my talent.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a photographer. My work mostly consists of fashion, portraits, studio shoots, landscapes and behind-the-scenes. My creative vision for the moment and BTS still timing sets me apart from other people. Yes everyone has their own style of working I usually get myself involved in the story of sets where I am working as a BTS photographer non-paid just to know the emotions and behind the short movies. People love to work with me as I love to experiment the photographs by taking multiple exposures of the moment to give them a sci-fi feels.

How do you think about happiness?
Camera, my technological gadgets, video games and motorcycles make me happy. Camera makes me happy because I love to experiment the photography and I try to create something new all time. I love riding Motor cycle in my free time to escape the reality and stress which make me happy and video games those make everyone happy. My gadgets always make me happy as I don’t like to be slow in processing or editing stuff so my gadgets have to be up to date so those are always up to date which literally provides me a lot of happiness.
