Today we’d like to introduce you to Keveen Baudouin. They and their team shared their story with us below:
CARRÉ started right before the pandemic in 2019 as an idea of finding a missing link between electronic French Touch-Industrial Rock and surrealism art: creating a project that has a concept behind as strong as its music. It was born in Highland Park, Los Angeles, CA from French expat Keveen Baudouin and Jules de Gasperis (who have been working in the LA scene for a few years already, producing, writing, and performing) working remotely with Parisian drummer Julien Boyé.
During the pandemic, the double drum French power trio released their first couple of singles accompanied by music videos by Patrick Fogarty, as well as a first self-titled EP later in 2020.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Everyone is pretty busy with a lot of different projects in between the US and France so CARRÉ finds its place somewhere in between when time allows it to exist. So far, the road has been fairly smooth, we can say. We performed live 3 times over the last couple of years (trying to cater shows very particularly), and we have released a first EP as well as 2 singles and a few remixes. A second EP is due in early 2024.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Let me break it down for each of us. Myself, Keveen Baudouin: I am a guitar and bass player who has been a permanent member of the Los Angeles scene for 10+ years now playing, writing, and producing with bands at the same time as doing some sessions around town. Today I’m mainly focused on CARRÉ, meanwhile playing and writing with 2 bands in LA: Dream Phases and Low Hum. I also have a side solo project called SIDE DƟƟR, a collection of more personal songs.
Jules de Gasperis has been active in the LA music scene for around seven years now after moving from Paris, France. He is a producer, mixer, and composer. He has been a member of a few bands, including also Low Hum and has his own alias Edgar Everyone.
Julien Boyé is a Parisian session drummer who played with Nouvelle Vague, Corine, Adan Jodoroswki, Gush. Julien travels back and forth between Paris and LA and is a permanent member of Angelino’s native James Supercave.
How do you define success?
I’ll answer that one with a quote from someone you’ll know, Albert Einstein said: “Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value”. Success is not an end goal if it is to be compromised. We hope that CARRÉ can speak to a high audience with what we have to express and share. In that state of mind, if “success” comes, we will embrace it. If it is to be of value, recognition will be meaningful.
