Conversations with Julie Shulman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Shulman.

Julie Shulman

Hi Julie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Well if I were to describe myself, I would say that I am a proud mother of two incredible young men who has a wealth of eclectic backgrounds and a true healer and a passionate spiritual motivator. My life lessons and experiences have made me who I am today. I started working as a bookkeeper for a Chiropractor and friend, and she convinced me to start masseusing as she knew I was good with people and their energy. I built my business by going to people’s homes and earning their respect and trust. I had one client for ten years, three days a week, this kept me afloat as a single mom of two boys. I built a name for myself and had many celebrity clients, and through word of mouth, they knew I was trustworthy to come into their homes and really good at what I did! I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer March 8, 2021 and had a double mastectomy on June 1, 2021. I took some time off to heal myself and started my own nonprofit, The Julie Shulman Breast Cancer Foundation. I donate “love Packages” to other survivors across the country and remind them “they are stronger than they know and more loved than they realize”. I host fundraising events to raise money, which allows me to donate to these brave woman. I started my foundation to keep me focused on healing and knowing how lucky I am, as I lost my best friend a few months before I was diagnosed. Back to masseusing, I have always incorporated sound in my healing treatments and have now expanded as a Sound Bath Practitioner! I currently practice at The Valley Salt Cave in Woodland Hills. I am a woman of many hats, just depends on the day!!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being a single mom and building a business is never easy, as I would sometimes have to leave my kids at night as a lot of clients preferred evening treatments in their homes. Time is something you can never get back! I have always had side hustles, buying gold/silver, selling athletic socks, hosting wine-tasting parties, substitute teaching, tutoring, waitressing, you name it and I have probably worked it… But looking back, these experiences have made my boys so resilient and successful. Both graduated High School as the Top Athletic Scholar with over 4.4 GPA’s! I’m a very proud mama! My oldest son graduated from Emory University and working in his field of finance and my youngest is about to leave for Wisconsin University. They know that working hard pays off. And they were both absolute Rock Stars after my surgery and helping me with my care and treatment.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a masseuse and sound bath practitioner and founder of The Julie Shulman Breast Cancer Foundation. I am known for empowering woman and supporting them in their journey through physical and energy work. I have male clients as well and have helped many get through their life crisis. I have a knack for being able to read people’s body and energy blockages and guiding them to wellness and overcoming obstacles and blockages. Some clients have even referred to me as their life coach. I feel I am different from other masseuses because of my life experiences have given me empathy and more knowledge in guiding others on their life journey.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was always a bit shy, usually one of the observant ones. I was always very superstitious which makes more sense to me as an adult. I was also a middle child, so a peacemaker as well. I played softball and volleyball and ran track. Not until college did I really come out of my shell and enjoy life a little more.
