Today we’d like to introduce you to Josef Samael.
Hi Josef, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Florida. My father started taking me to Monday Night Wrestling at the West Palm Beach Auditorium when I was three years old. The wrestling was presented as Championship Wrestling From Florida and it was under the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) umbrella. The NWA World’s Heavyweight Champion was Harley Race and I was infatuated with him and professional wrestling as a child. Years later, I was at a crossroads in my life, I could either live a normal civilian lifestyle or join the circus. I decided to join the circus and train to become a professional wrestler…I never looked back. The wrestling business afforded me the privilege to travel the entire world and in 2011, I became the 84th NWA World’s Heavyweight Champion. In 2012, I moved to Southern California, and in 2016 I created PCW ULTRA. In January 2022, we will celebrate our six years anniversary.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Professional Wrestling is a constant uphill battle, you must sacrifice everything to succeed. You miss all special occasions with family due to being on the road. You suffer injuries, loneliness, run into shady promoters, find yourself in dangerous surroundings, and we are always banged up…looking for healthy food and gyms. We do not have an offseason so we bring our compounded injuries, sleepless nights, and pirate lifestyle with us as we travel all over the world in planes, trains, and automobiles to entertain our fans. But the roar of the crowd makes it all worthwhile.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a professional wrestler, I am an on-screen performer on MLW TV. I own and operate PCW ULTRA which includes event planning, creative storytelling, booking of talent, promoting live events, being a webmaster, graphic artist, travel agent, etc. I am most proud of PCW ULTRA, a real wrestlers wrestling company.
How do you define success?
I define success as having freedom. The freedom to work as much or as little as I want. The freedom to choose what brings me joy and to not have to do anything that I do not believe in morally or creatively. Also, having a roof over my head and good food in my stomach. Being in the position to mentor others and helping them realize their very own success.
