Conversations with Issac Morgan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Issac Morgan.

Hi Issac, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I am a 2009 graduate of Florida A&M University’s School of Journalism and have worked in the entertainment industry for several years, with credits in film, radio, and podcasts. I’ve also contributed to several notable publications as a journalist and interviewed and worked closely with a myriad of celebrities, from the actor Brandon Hammond in the hit movie Soul Food to Christopher “Play” Martin of Kid n’ Play.

It wasn’t an easy road to gaining connections and building my portfolio, as I’ve hit many bumps in the road. After being laid off from a company that managed celebrity social media accounts in Tampa, I was able to take an independent route in the industry. That said, I managed to secure a relationship with Play of Kid n’ Play and contributed to his documentary film “Andidanced.” In addition, I was able to lead his news site called Brand Newz n’ Life as its manager, leading a team of talented filmmakers and journalists.

Fast forward, I am able to cover major news stories as a journalist, in politics, health, entertainment, and more. And as a result of publishing many stories that have been number one in Google news, I was able to become verified on Twitter @IssacMorgan12.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been easy. My team and I had to literally continue grinding without any guaranteed results and had to make financial sacrifices to attend events across the nation, with little compensation.

Some of us lost jobs and even left good opportunities to engage in our passions. And I have experienced struggles with my personal life, experienced deaths in my circle, and other challenges that have required much attention.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am known for media relations, connecting media outlets with inspiring stories from artists, community advocates, everyday people making a difference in their respective communities, and filmmakers and actors. My passion is to challenge the narrative and let people tell their stories to a broader audience.

I’m also known for covering state politics in Florida and co-producing film projects with cast members of Love and Hip-Hop in Los Angeles. I’ve had the pleasure of writing stories and assisting with podcasts featuring actors, artists, and others from across the nation.

What were you like growing up?
The crazy thing is I was shy, more laid-back, and not into entertainment, as my passion was sports, particularly basketball. But in college, I was able to attend one of the top HBCUs, which transformed my personality and focus.

At the time, I had become more outgoing, outspoken (in a good way), and unafraid to chase my dreams and goals in life.
