Today we’d like to introduce you to Gino Borri.
Hi Gino, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born & raised in Detroit, MI. Started making music when in high school, but things really started to move in college. Moved to Los Angeles once I graduated and found my way into songwriting through my manager Adam Small. Over the past couple of years, I’m blessed to have some multi-platinum records that charted at #1 on radio. Now that songwriting has set me up nicely in the music industry, I’m excited to dive back into my artist material.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Definitely not. The first few years I lived out here I was broke. I worked all types of miserable jobs, from LA Fitness to Uber with little-to-no money to my name. Songwriting saved my life for sure.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I definitely specialize in storytelling. I love painting a vivid scene for the listener with interesting details– and walking them through a situation I’ve created. Creating concepts and watching them come to life with wordplay. My newest single, “I’m Outside” (produced by Trap Money Benny), does just that. The concept is super simple– basically letting people know “I’m out here”, I’m in the streets. I’m outside. Come and see me. With the pandemic finally over, I think most people can relate to that.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I grew up like any Italian from the Detroit area. Big family, played sports, got into trouble. I was blessed to grow up in a very diverse neighborhood and have friends from all walks of life. I gained a lot of perspective from where I grew up.
