Today we’d like to introduce you to Debbie Jason.
Hi Debbie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Since I was young, I found fulfillment in working with children who had difficulties with different stressors and trauma. I spent a summer in college working with adolescents in a wilderness program who came from a variety of backgrounds, which too often involved chronic stress and trauma. Seeing their resilience solidified my desire to enter into the world of trauma therapy. Since then, I have not looked back. I have had the opportunity to work across settings to support mental health including within inpatient, outpatient, day treatment, school, foster care and residential settings. I am passionate about helping individuals to regulate emotions, tolerate distress, resolve the impacts of past trauma on the brain and body and improve interpersonal relationships. I feel fortunate to see miracle healing happen every day in my job.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Helping individuals to heal from trauma is never a smooth road. In my personal journey, my family did not believe in therapy so there was a large uphill journey to educate and follow my career passion. In connecting to my clients, I often join in their ups and downs as they conquer their challenges and reveal (to themselves) their strengths toward their life worth living.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Maybe someone reading this has gone through their own personal trauma, and is not sure how to get help or maybe does not believe they can get better. Then Trauma Therapy CA was created for you. Most therapy clinics are generalized. Unlike the medical field, we do not tend to have many therapy clinics that are specific to certain conditions or etiologies. At Trauma Therapy CA, we specialize in treating the impacts of stress and trauma – which can be complex and cut across diagnoses. It is all we do every day and we engage in high levels of training so that we can do it well.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Creativity and flexibility. I think it is important to live by the therapeutic values I teach, and my team of therapists supports this way of being as well.
