Today we’d like to introduce you to Carl Taylor PKA Jupiter.
Hi Carl, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I moved from Oakland to LA in 2013 to pursue my dream of creating music. As many creatives know, leaving home and starting over in a new city is no easy task. I was blessed to have some luck early on in meeting some great people and got my first major placement not too long after I moved. Ten years later, I’m proud to say I’m still doing what I love and have the privilege of owning Bridgetown studio. I’m passionate about making sure that artists have a space to create high-quality music.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not. In 2014, I lived in my car for almost a month while trying to figure out the next best move. When I relocated to LA, I left my entire network of support so it was challenging to master making a way for myself financially through music while also trying to get to know people and network. When you are self-employed doing what we do in such a competitive industry, you have to be resilient and understand that losses are inevitable. Although there have been lots of ups and downs in my career, not quitting and staying the course has served me well.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a Producer, I’ve had the honor to work with some extremely talented artists like: Jidenna, Gashi, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dog, Kid Cudi, Aaron Ray, Jacob Lattimore, War, & Ty $ to name a few. Last year I had the opportunity to work on the TV show “Becoming a Popstar” on MTV which was a really cool experience. In 2018, I opened Bridgetown Studio with the goal of creating an artist-centric space for new creatives and haven’t looked back since. While I’m really proud of the things I’ve been able to accomplish personally, it means a lot to me to see other artists have the opportunity to do the same and Bridgetown has provided that.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I’m optimistic about where our industry is going over the next 5-10 years. Although the music business is always evolving, the adoption of social media and technology has afforded many people exposure and opportunity they never could have dreamed of a decade ago which in some respects helps to level the playing field for the independent artist.
