Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenson Sekas.
Brenson, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I first started drawing cartoons that I liked when I very young, maybe 5-8 years old. I became intrigued with surf and skate culture as I got older because I grew up near the beach, and my dad always took us surfing. I continued to draw and paint as I grew older with the intention of one day doing it professionally. I became immersed into the world of fishing and worked on charter boats for six years. This has translated into my work today and makes up 99% of my clients.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
For a long time, I always considered my illustrations as a side hustle and often I lost sight of it as something that could support me. Consistency is the key, and self doubt is often my biggest enemy.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have a little bit of a niche in the fishing industry here in Southern California. A lot of people own boats and want something to wear that expresses their lifestyle of fishing while on land. That being said, I make a lot of boat graphics for T-Shirts.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Luck, Consistency. I figure if I like the stuff that I am making, somebody else will.
