Today we’d like to introduce you to Sisanie Villaclara.
Sisanie is the co-host for On Air with Ryan Seacrest which is broadcasted on L.A.’s #1 Hit Music Station – 102.7 KIIS-FM weekday mornings in Los Angeles, CA and syndicated worldwide. She currently hosts a 2-hour show on KIIS weekdays from 10am-12pm as well. In addition, Sisanie hosts her podcast Twinning with Sisanie and is a co-host of the 9021OMG podcast with Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling.
Prior to this, she hosted middays on KIIS-FM for eight years. Sisanie also broadcasted a midday show for sister station KHTS-Channel 933, San Diego’s Hit Music Station during that time. In Addition, she had her own national show which was heard on over 60 CHR iHeartMedia radio stations including major markets such as Y100/Miami and more. Sisanie is bilingual, Mexican/Peruvian and was born and raised in Orange County, CA. She discovered her passion for broadcasting in high school where she was very involved with her school’s TV News Channel and even had her own segment in every broadcast. While she was in school, Sisanie enjoyed dance, gymnastics, cheerleading and was responsible for the morning announcements over the PA. After graduating from Los Alamitos High School, she moved to San Diego, CA to attend college at San Diego State University.
In May 2007, she graduated from SDSU earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Art with an Emphasis in Multimedia. Sisanie was only 19-years-old when she started interning for iHeartMedia, formally known as Clear Channel. Her internship began January 2004 and by August of that year, Sisanie was hired as a board op for all the FM stations in San Diego. The next month she got her first on-air opportunity at sister country station, KUSS. In 2005 she also took another part-time position at Top-40 station, KHTS as an on-air talent. While working part-time for both stations, board op-ing and going to school full-time, Sisanie also managed to work for the San Diego production department where she voiced/produced many commercials. By her senior year of college, she was taking 19 units per semester and commuting to Los Angeles on the weekends for a part-time on-air shift at 102.7 KIIS-FM. Sisanie ultimately got her first big break at age 23 and officially became a full-time on-air talent for KIIS-FM. She broadcasted her first midday show on July 2, 2007.
Sisanie is a TV correspondent for NBC’s CA Live show which airs weekdays. She has filled in for Kelly Ripa a few times for the nationally televised talk show, Live with Kelly and Ryan. She was also the announcer for The iHeartRadio Music Awards in March of 2018 which was broadcasted on TBS. In 2014 and 2015 she was the announcer for The iHeartRadio Ultimate Pool Party which was nationally televised on The CW network. In 2015, Sisanie co-hosted LIVE From the Grammy Red Carpet for KTLA 5. In 2008, Sisanie was presented with an honorary award from Edison Media Research “30 under 30” – A Nationwide search for 30 young- bright individuals with promising careers in the radio industry. An enthusiasm for life is what keeps Sisanie continuously motivated! She enjoys being a first-time mom to fraternal twins Aiza and Maxon as well as a wife to her husband of 6 years, Michael. Sisanie currently lives in Los Angeles, where her biggest passion resides – entertainment.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Of course not. Starting out as an intern and trying to earn respect from programmers was tough at first. I was young and inexperienced but I continued to learn and grow and said yes to everyone who asked for my help in any department. I was said “no” to a lot. I would audition for radio gigs and they would always say I had a lot of potential but I wasn’t quite ready yet. I kept on pushing and remained positive that everything would fall into place one day and it finally did. When I auditioned for KIIS-FM, I actually didn’t hear back for weeks and I just felt like it was another job I didn’t get. Until I got a call back to start as a part-time DJ on Sunday nights. The gig was in LA obviously but I was living in San Diego at the time finishing up my senior year of college. I commuted for six months up to LA to do that shift on Sunday nights. The time slot was 7pm-Midnight and I didn’t make it home to SD until 2 sometimes 3am. I had class the next day at 8am. Those months were tough especially because I was also taking 21 units at the time to graduate in time. I’m happy to say it all paid off, looking back now.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My job is so unique and that’s what I love most about it. We create a show for millions of people every single day and not one day is the same. I’m proud to work for LA’s #1 Hit Music Station but in addition, being a part of the Ryan Seacrest team is by far the icing on the cake. I love my co-workers and truly enjoy going to work (even if it is down the hall in my house and on a zoom screen now). I love that I get to share my life and laugh all morning long. Our listeners are so loyal and it’s because of them we get up and create an entertaining show each day.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Any time you start a new job or position, you take a risk. Yes, I got this amazing opportunity to work for KIIS-FM right out of college but moving to a big city where you don’t know anyone can be risky. For me, the risk was failure… I didn’t want to move to LA and fail. I didn’t want to blow this amazing opportunity. I still feel that way. And if there’s anything that 2020 has taught us is that nothing in life is guaranteed. I also am grateful for my bosses taking a risk on me when I was only 23 years old and trusting me with my own show on one of the biggest radio stations in the world.
