Conversations with Jessie and Janette Wong

Hi Jessie and Janette, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
We are the Wong twins. After graduating college with our Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Management, we decided to purchase our very first home in the loving Southbay area where we grew up in. Our stepfather worked as a carpenter for many years and we absolutely enjoyed watching him complete home projects. As a child, we were obsessed with watching home improvement shows on HGTV like House Swap, Flip or Flop and Property Brothers. This encouraged us to purchase a fixer-upper home in California. With our family’s helping hands, we were able to remodel the interior and exterior of our home on a tight budget. This experience has been one of the most memorable moments with our family and has sparked our passion for interior design, DIY and renovation. With our blog and social media account, we hope to inspire people to think outside of the box and bring them along in our home improvement journey.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely was not a smooth road. This is why we enjoy documenting our journey to home design. If you saw our style four years ago and compared it to our current home, you would see a major change. Also, our DIYs were never perfect, but it’s the mistakes that were the most memorable parts of our journey. Skill takes research, trials, patients and practice.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Both Janette and I majored in healthcare administration and are now working in the Healthcare field as being apart of the administration team. What we are known for is our hobby outside of our work life which is interior decorating and home improvement. It was until three years after owning our home that we had started to document our journey through MadeSimply Instagram and blog. It was highly requested by friends and family, therefore we decided why not. We purchased our home at age 26 and enjoyed fixing our outdated home to something we would both love and call home. Our grandma always said “simplicity is beautiful” therefore we had come up with the name “made__simply”. Our visions are inspired by modern and minimalist designs and decor. We hope to share and take our followers and readers through our DIY, renovation and simple interior decor designs, as it is what we are most proud of.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Books such as Atomic Habits, Untamed and Home Body have inspired me in so many ways such as women empowerment, healthy habits and home design.
