Conversations with the Inspiring Scarlet Stoker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Scarlet Stoker.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My story, my goodness. I started playing soccer and acting when I was five years old. Splitting life up into athlete and actor worlds became the norm early on. Twenty-five years later, I’m married to my best friend, have one dog, one cat, and one 1.5-year-old wild man cub and I’m still living between athlete and actor worlds.

When it came time to pick a college, my mom said it best, “you can be an actor on some level your whole life, but you can only play college soccer once.” So, I went to play at East Carolina University and I got to minor in professional acting. I was lucky to meet my now husband, also a pirate athlete, at ECU. After college, I moved to Florida and worked at Disney for about two years. After not getting cast in a Disney production, I made the decision to move to Philly to be with my now husband.

I started working out at a gym in our neighborhood and little did I know, that would change it all. The manager came and stopped me during my workout desperate for a sub for a group class. “I don’t work here,” I had to remind her, but she didn’t care and said I would be great. So, I jumped in, did what I was going to do on my own just with the group. They loved it. I loved it. And I knew I needed this to be my daily life asap. Afterwards, I spoke to the head of personal training, started the certification process that day and within two weeks had my first personal clients and two group classes a week.

We got married and moved to… Shanghai?! Yep, that’s right, he married me and moved us to China! As terrified as I was, it turned out to be one of the best experiences of my life. I got to work at two very different but wonderful gyms there and found theatre people too! I had the chance to be in two shows, one play and one musical while living there. It was nice getting to live in my two worlds while we were there. I even earned a few more fitness certifications: AI kettlebell, TRX, and Xpert Pole dancing.

After Shanghai, it was my turn to choose our new home and I chose Los Angeles. I always knew that I wanted to move to California at some point and give Hollywood a try. I guess we figured a new city, new apartment, new car, and a new baby? We found out right before officially moving here that we were expecting.

A growing baby bump, little did I know, made finding the right gym home difficult. After some duds, I was so thankful to find Paul and Bobby. Those two made me feel instantly at home. They accepted me, big belly and all and just like that I was a new addition to the F45 family.

So, my life now: I teach at F45 Arts District, I’m auditioning as much as I can and take a weekly group acting class, I’m also a Rodan&Fields skin care consultant. Those are just my “jobs.” When I’m not doing those things, I am a full-time momma to my Henry! Being a mom is pretty freaking cool, exhausting, fun, crazy, messy and very educational.

Has it been a smooth road?
I can say it has been a pretty smooth road for me. In general, when I’ve gone after something, I’ve gotten it, and if I didn’t I was able to shrug it off and keep on keeping on.

I did have two experiences where being pregnant and being a mom created an issue with work. Both are reasons I am super grateful to my F45 owners!

I would say to any woman BE AUDACIOUS. It means showing a willingness to take surprisingly bold risks and I think all women could do that a little more. Some people might not like it, forget them. I’ll also share something my dad always told me before my soccer games, age five riding in his Toyota truck probably listening to Def Leppard, “have fun, be safe, your daddy loves you and don’t take any shit from anybody.” You can add in or take out, but the last line is the most important for all the ladies out there!

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a personal trainer, group fitness instructor, skin care consultant, actor, wife, and momma! Those are my jobs and I feel like I specialize in all of them. In all my jobs, I feel like I bring a smile and positive energy that can’t really be matched.

I’m really lucky, I love personal training and instructing so much. As I’m chasing my acting dream, I couldn’t have asked for a better supplemental job. I love getting to be a part of other peoples’ fitness lives, watching them reach their goals and be proud of themselves is so rewarding.

Rodan&Fields came into play when we were getting ready to move back to the states from Shanghai and I knew I wouldn’t have a gym right away. My sister in law is a consultant too so it’s nice that we can share that and work together. I really can do it anywhere, just need my phone or laptop and I can contribute to our family, not to mention my lashes and skin look the best they ever have.

I’m proud that I represent two companies that I actually believe in. I also believe in myself as an actor, momma, and wife. I think what really sets me apart: I don’t quit. I believe in who I am and I don’t have time to worry about who likes it or not. My motto, “to thine own self be true” is even one of my tatoos.

Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
I grew up with amazing parents who always let me believe I could do anything I wanted to. They constantly surrounded me with other creative adults and role models that I learned so much from. They made sure I knew that no matter what, they loved me and I had a safe place to try and fail.

Being a part of team sports all my life also instilled in me the idea that you can’t always do it all by yourself. My team now just consists of a supportive husband, a snuggly dog, noisy cat and my biggest fan, my little monkey Henry.
