Today we’d like to introduce you to Janet Gomez.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My path to L.A Mamacitas and my blog started from motherhood. After I had my daughter, Julianna, I found myself in a lonely place. People always spoke to me about how horrible labor was but in reality, the aftermath was harder for me. The shock of becoming a mom and the responsibility of a little human made me so nervous and fear always struck me. I found myself wanting to connect with other women like myself. I soon started my blog (Jan’s Spring; www.jansspring.com). At the same time, my husband found a group of moms in Los Angeles called L.A Mamacita. I attended one of their meetups and that is how I found my business partner, Ruby and the founder of L.A Mamacita. After connecting, we decided to host a brunch at my house for other moms to join us. I immediately knew that we were a perfect team and that we had something special: we are both very creative and love to connect with people. That is how the name changed to L.A Mamacitas (plural). We recently held our annual “Mamacitas & Mimosas” event with over 100 attendees – it was a magical day that I hold close to my heart.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Smooth road? What does that even mean? HAHA… it’s been rough, but in the most beautiful way possible. Ruby and I have had a lot of sleepless nights, hundreds of phone calls, Facetime, and thousands of texts and emails to each other. Hundreds of emails go out for every event with the hope that someone will want to collaborate with us. At times, I have felt that I have neglected my family. Mom-guilt comes in full force when my daughter is telling me to play with her but I really need to answer that last email or that last text that just came in or I really need to post something on social media. Have I said that I also have a full time job? I do all of this because I LOVE it. It is my passion. IF you are not passionate about something, it won’t even be worth it. When we do anything that involves L.A Mamacitas, my soul is full and I am reminded why I do what I do. My advice is to always try to focus on the “now.” That is something I am trying to learn myself. I am trying to live day by day, hour by hour. As an entrepreneur, I feel our minds can be running 100 mph at all times. I try to take some time out of my weekend to really focus on my family. They are the reason why I am even able to do all that I do: through amazing support.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into L.A Mamacitas story. Tell us more about the business.
On my blog, I focus a little bit of everything: fashion, family, travel, and event and party design. I take huge pride in everything we have accomplished with L.A Mamacitas. We are a network of Los Angeles women who are decision-makers, mothers, entrepreneurs, and influencers. Through our collaborations with local businesses and national brands, we create live, unique, and interactive experiences to bring our members together. We lay the foundation, so that each event provides a social and empowering experience for every woman in attendance, regardless of her role there. Our mission is for everyone to make personal connections for future collaborations.
For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
There are plenty of opportunities for women and I think opportunities would be even greater if we all support one another! With so much competition, now is the best time to stand up for one another and unite to make each other better. The media does focus on the challenges and unfortunately, it also brings out the hate in one another.
That said, we are in the unique position of having a platform and because of this, there is plenty of room for everyone to have an opportunity. I am continuously learning from my business partner, Ruby: I feel more empowered working with her and admire the fact that we are able to feed off each other so much positive energy.
