Conversations with the Inspiring Jamika Carter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamika Carter.

Jamika, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started this journey hungry for fulfillment in something and someone bigger than what any job, person, or bank account could ever satisfy. I was overcoming a toxic relationship and in dire need of wholeness. As I reflect on that season, I was clearly making a person my comfort, joy, and necessity when in actuality it made him become something God never intended him to be. In short, I was giving all of me to a person that could never fill me up.

Once I was snatched up and gracefully invited to church by my endearing sorority sister, Simone Ferguson, things got LIT quick! God ignited a love for prayer like never before. Once I learned prayer was a conversation with God. I went offfff all day and night. It started as journal entries full of prayers and notes from church then quickly became daily texts to my closest friends and family.

As I stayed steady with my daily texts, they grew! Everyone connected to me was requesting prayers and forwarding them to everyone they knew.

After two steady years of texting prayers to over 700 people, I transitioned to daily emails, and NOW, we have a whole PrayerPlug Mobile Application! It’s still surreal that God ordered this in this way.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’d be exaggerating if I said it wasn’t a smooth road, to be honest. The shift from corporate America to Real Estate Investing to Technology and Spirituality has been uncomfortable but everything just connected to the next. The hardest part has been the discomfort of letting go of my intended plan for my life and becoming a wife and mother of two while adapting to my new role as Chief Encouragement Officer of PrayerPlug. I just knew I would be a financial executive with a routine life and a growing 6-figure salary at this point. Thank God, Jesus had better plans. I have learned so much about patience, recognizing pride versus passion, pursuing purpose over profit, and letting progress feed my faith more than perfection.

I encourage every visionary to let the vision unfold as you see it day by day. Having a big-picture vision and working backwards is golden! Don’t limit what can manifest based on your own knowledge or qualities. Believing is key to taking action. There are boundless possibilities for God to blow your mind when you pray in expectancy, believing it will come to fruition! Throughout the process, have discernment about the people you share your vision with and always work from a place of gratitude!

I use my gifts to turn you up with daily encouragement, prayer, and biblical understanding through the PrayerPlug Mobile App, PrayerPlug Podcast, and PrayerPlug Instagram page! I’m most known for my transparency, on-point testimonies and relatable prayers.

I’m most grateful for the organic growth of the PrayerPlug’s supporters! I haven’t done any strategic marketing or promotion. I simply stay vulnerable and consistent with prayers.

The most vital component that sets me apart is my personal life. I don’t speak on anyone else’s experiences other than people noted in the Bible for spiritual context. I share my victories and trials while using what God gives me to encourage everyone I’m connected to so they don’t give up!

Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
My childhood played a major role before I started PrayerPlug and it plays a major role now. I grew up in constant transition. My parents got divorced when I was young, my dad was Active Duty military, and the custody battles kept my siblings and I in different living situations.

Lacking stability forced me to have joy no matter what. I love how resilient a child can be in the face of adversity. The seeds of joy and optimism still feed me as I take entrepreneurship step by step, honor God, serve my husband, appreciate my own evolution, and nurture my children.
