Today we’d like to introduce you to Yvette Gonzalez.
Hi Yvette, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My career as a hairstylist began after high school. I’ve always loved hair, makeup and fashion. After becoming a licensed cosmetologist, I trained at Vidal Sassoon and Toni&Guy. I fell in love with education and took on a full-time position at Vidal Sassoon in Beverly Hills. After Vidal Sassoon, I came back to work in the South Bay. In 2016, I was looking for hair extensions for myself and came across Natural Beaded Rows™. I shadowed the creator and days later, I had my first install. It changed my life. I knew this is something I had to share with every woman I knew. I trained, joined the academy and I am the only Natural Beaded Rows™licensed artist in the South Bay. Like I said, I love. Education and when it comes to hair extensions it’s not a one size fits all. In 2018 we opened Tress+Mane Hair Extension Salon in Hermosa Beach. I’m a hair extension specialist and I love giving clients the hair of their dreams. The hair they thought they could never have.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Balance. As a wife, mother to two amazing boys and a salon owner, my biggest struggle is time. I want to do it all. I’ve learned to balance all my roles. I make time to go on dates with my husband, spend time with my boys when we’re not on the soccer field, we love beach days, vacations and hanging out. Salon days are full of transformations. I love that I get to help women feel amazing, confident and beautiful.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Tress+Mane Hair Extension Salon?
I’m a co-owner of Tress+Mane hair extension salon in Hermosa Beach, CA. My career as a hair extension artist began in 2016. When I was looking for a safe and natural-looking hair extension method for myself. I came across NBR® extensions. I fell in love with the transformation and have been wearing NBR® ever since. I have learned four different hand-tied methods now and continue training because I believe there is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to hair extensions and I want the best for every client that sits in my chair. I am the first and only Licensed NBR® artist in the South Bay.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I joined NBR Academy when I decided to specialize in hair extensions. I believe having a mentor and a group of like-minded hair stylists to learn from strengthens you as an artist. We share ideas and tips and hold each other accountable and that has been rewarding.
