Community Highlights: Meet Tess Trotter and Alysa Scanzano of CEP Communications

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tess Trotter and Alysa Scanzano.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
To say the stars aligned when we met one another would be an understatement. For starters, we were both freelancers working in the marketing field. We had the same hustle mentality and professional goals. And on top of it all, we connected on a friendship level.

As we grew closer, we came to rely on each other as a source of comfort and inspiration. Our motivational chats always seem to happen at the right moment. And we are able to give relevant, helpful advice thanks to our similar situations.

We always loved the idea of working together, but it wasn’t until 2020 that we noticed a shift in the industry. When the world was thrust into lockdown and having an online presence became a must, many businesses started looking for digital marketing assistance. The demand grew, and we realized it was the ideal time to team up.

Soon after, CEP Communications grew to become a full-fledged creative marketing agency. One that is female-led and employed works with socially conscious and purpose-driven brands and has expanded its offerings to include more of the artistic services we are so passionate about, like video production and branding.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Unfortunately, bumps in the road are inevitable. And we’re speaking from experience. When the money is low, or a client doesn’t pay, or an employee ghosts you, it can be hard to continue to believe in yourself.

Luckily, we’ve found that while these road bumps are not fun, they are valuable. With them comes growth and knowledge. We’ve learned the contractual terms to put in place, how to thoroughly vet employees, and how to improve client retention. And most importantly, we’ve learned how to have the confidence to make our vision a reality. Each day presents new struggles, but we aim to welcome these struggles, learn from them, adapt, and grow.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
CEP Communications is a creative marketing agency that provides an array of digital marketing services, including web design and development, video production, branding, social media marketing, email marketing, and more.

Given our passion for what we do, we prioritize producing quality work that truly encompasses the client’s vision. We offer the best of both worlds — implementing proven, effective processes and practices while still adopting a unique and customized approach to each account we take on.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
We aren’t afraid to have a professional yet personal working relationship with our clients. Oftentimes, not only are they buying into our service offerings, but they are also buying into who we are. They are invested in our success and will always make sure to congratulate us on milestones and company growth (and vice versa). Even if the contract ends, old clients check in on us and send referrals our way. They want us to succeed, and that has allowed us to continue to strive for more. Each and every client has helped and supported us more than they know, and we are so grateful to them.
