Today we’d like to introduce you to Maya Kay.
Hi Maya, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am from Hayward, CA. Growing up in the 90s, I have always been fascinated by the entertainment industry and grew a large passion for it. As early as five years old, I loved playing with makeup, dressing up, and taking photos. I love singing, acting and was part of a hip hop dance crew until I joined Mount Eden High Cheerleading.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My life hasn’t always been a smooth road and I have faced a few struggles with both my personal life and my career. But no matter what, I never give up and keep pushing through any obstacles that come my way. I truly believe everything happens for a reason and even though I have been faced with some life challenges, it has made me into the woman, wife, and mother I am today. I’m proud to say I have overcame everything and still remain positive.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I began my start in modeling when I was booked to model in music videos for Joseph Kay, Snoop Dogg, Too Short, J. Stalin, JuneOnnaBeat and Mistah F.A.B. I have been featured in multiple international magazines and runway fashion shows. Now I am slowly working my way to be on the big screen in Hollywood films.
I started my education at California College of Barbering and Cosmetology to learn more about the beauty and skincare industry and became a Certified Lash Technician. I have opened Maya Kay Beauty Studios where I offer multiple styles of eyelash extensions, handmade mink lashes, makeup looks and express facials. Beginning of March, I will also be offering media services which will include management, photography, graphic designing and music production.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Having an outgoing, positive personality has played an important role in my success. In every situation I’m put in, I always give my best. Being comfortable to meet new people and network is also essential in my life and career.
