Today we’d like to introduce you to Lorena Ashmore.
Hi Lorena, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m a Wife & Mom, Esthetician, Lash Artist, creative, and business owner. I went to esthetician school at 27 – with no direction or ambition other than not wanting a 9-5 job. I took clients for nearly a decade- offering everything from brows and lashes to facials and spray tans. Dear Lash + Love was created after years of taking clients and sharing about it on social media. I eventually started making my own apparel for lash artists after noticing that no one was offering cute tees for beauty pros to wear to work. I built an Instagram following by sharing the ins and outs of my business and adding tips for other lash artists.
Other entrepreneurs began to ask me tons of questions about growing my business and online shop. During COVID, I stopped taking in-person clients and focused on virtual business coaching for other beauty pros. I found that there was a real need for professional consulting in the industry, and I had the knowledge to share. Like a friend- my advice and content is honest and to the point.
This side of the business turned into a podcast, blog, web design services, social media coaching, content creation and so much more. I enjoy educating beauty professionals through digital content & blogging. I love connecting with women all over the world through my consulting & website design services. Sharing skincare, beauty & fashion allows me to feel creative throughout the day and is just a perk to my brand. I’m all about making women feel good and inspiring them to live a more effortless life.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve had to pivot a lot in my business. I went from focusing on services to apparel to coaching to full-on consulting. As I’ve grown and changed (and through a pandemic, neck surgery, and a pregnancy), my business has evolved with me, which can definitely be scary at times but is also incredibly exciting. When I first went to esthetician school, I could never have imagined this is what I would be doing now, but I’m so grateful for it.
As you know, we’re big fans of Dear Lash + Love. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Dear Lash + Love offers apparel and digital resources for beauty professionals- from complete web design services to one-on-one and group coaching sessions to e-guides, a podcast and a blog. DLL is all about inspiring and empowering other beauty professionals to take their businesses to the next level.
I’m so proud of what I get to do and that I’ve been able to fill such a void in the industry.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
I had to shift my entire business plan during COVID – and at the end of the day, I’m happy I did. My biggest lesson from all of this was to go with the flow and not be afraid to scrap it all and start from scratch!
