Today we’d like to introduce you to Karin Nahmani.
Hi Karin, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
It all started when I was in school becoming a naturopathic doctor in Israel. I volunteered as a Colon Hydrotherapist with my teachers. I fell in love with helping people and putting a smile on their face, especially with helping cancer patients. During chemotherapy, something so simple as using the restroom is not that easy. I saw people when they’re so backed up, constipated and in pain.
So, I guess I can say colonics found me more than I found colonics.
When I moved to the States, I worked as a therapist for a few years then I decided to open my own clinic. I must say it wasn’t easy in the beginning. I didn’t know anybody, but my dream was to be the pioneer in colonics and how gut, digestive and colon health. That’s where it all started.
I did advertise in newspapers, health and wellness magazines, celebrity magazines and I waited. I think, back then, colonics were still a taboo in some areas and it was hard to even talk to people about this stuff. But, not long after that, I started to build a client base. People from the entertainment started to come to the office and then it became word of mouth. It started to pick up very quickly and I built up my name in the mainstream of the Hollywood and have been doing it for 21 years. I am known as the “Colonics to the Stars. I have a client who is a writer on a TV show and he said Karin, you are the best kept secret in Hollywood! I’m living my dream, I’m helping people including cancer patients. I am able to help put a smile on their face.
It’s more than just healing, it’s touching people’s lives, that’s my main goal. I am a firm believer in what I do, and I know through detox, cleansing and colonics it helps people. I see it, I have lived it… I’m helping men with issues and problems and other women too. I get to help women with fertility issues. Colonics and detoxing help with pregnancies and fertility. It certainly helped me to have my kids, I have four.
So colonics are more than just a way to cleanse, it’s a way of life for me, and that what I am doing!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My biggest challenge doing colonics is getting my message out. I remember going every day to my clinic and hoping that clients would come. That was 21 years ago, no one wanted to share or talk about colonics. This is when I was people’s best kept secret.
This is my still my challenge but even more so now, I want to break the taboo around colonics and gut health. That’s why after 21 years, I wrote my book called “Shit Isn’t A Dirty Word – An Unorthodox Approach to Digestive and Colon Health” I want to spread the word, I want to break that taboo, I want to make people feel comfortable talking about their poop about their constipation, about their digestive system.
I always talk frankly about poop, shit, waste and constipation. I very important when I talk about the issues we all face with our gut, I am very open and honest. That’s why I love my podcast, “Sh*t Isn’t A Dirty Word – A Not So Ordinary Podcast Hosted By Karin Nahmani”, we just let it all go, talk about what needs to be talked about in an open, honest and frank way.
I faced so many challenges with my book and PR companies. They didn’t want to represent me because of the name, Shit Isn’t A Dirty Word because they don’t want to be associated with the word shit, even though shit is not a bad word. Which I am grateful because I wouldn’t have met the guys from the Something Something Podcast, who are now working with my on everything. My book, my podcast and blog and anything else we can think of. It’s the out-of-the-box thinking is what they are great at… I love that… They are amazing!
Really, poop is not a bad word, but it’s much more convenient to talk openly about sex or other hot button subjects. They would talk about that rather than something that is so much more important to each and every one of us. I don’t apologize for what I say or things I talk about. I actually want to bring things to the mainstream because that’s who I am.
As you know, we’re big fans of Pure Center Colonics. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Our gut is the center of who we are. If our gut feels good, so do we. If our gut feels bad, forget it, we feel bad and more often than not we don’t look well when we have gut issues. I always say Everything is connected to our gut… Our emotions, our mind and our body.
The digestive system controls so many aspects in our life. Mental, physical, emotional, fertility cancer, anxiety and so much more. Did you know it also causes skin problems, no one has really addressed it. People just live their life thinking constipation or saying I poop once a week is normal. So my challenge is to break that taboo and bringing knowledge to the people surrounding the digestive, colon and gut health and to show people that they can actually talk about it without being ashamed and thinking that something is wrong with them.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Over 21 years, these are Things I Have Learned –
1. No matter how much you explain to people about their digestive system and how important it is, there is always something that causes people and clients to have a prejudice towards colonics.
2. I’ve learned that we can teach everyone to love their body, to be in tune with their body and to heal their body with simple detox.
3. When you talk to as many people as I talk to and give them more and more useful information that they can actually do and see results by eating healthy, they become thirsty for that information.
There isn’t a lot of information out there about colonics which is another reason I wrote my book. I wrote it in such a simple great way. Explaining digestive, gut and colon health that the average person can understand. What is detoxing and why it is so important. Plus other methods they can actually use to achieve better health and a better life.
I wrote about the mind to body connection, to look at our direction and except things that have happened in our life, let that shit go… Choose what’s important to us without being ashamed of any situation.
4. We should never be ashamed about anything that goes on inside or outside our body, especially disease. We should never be ashamed to talk about being constipated, of gas or gut health. To talk about it is to learn about it and that it is very normal.
So, if you’re asking me about lessons learned – our mind, body and soul are all connected. Having an open line of communication about issues of the digestive, colon and gut health is key. Colonics and detoxing helps a lot, and that we’re all the same, we have the same digestive system, the same issues of getting clogged up from time to time and it’s my job is to unplug the plug.
And finally, that Shit Isn’t A Dirty Word, it’s just a great way to start a conversation about being healthy on the inside and out. I wish everybody a clean healthy life.
