Community Highlights: Meet Jane An of Monolithe Wealth Planning Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jane An.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Helping clients prepare for life’s ups and downs financially is a passion that started with losing my father at an early age at the age of 18. My parents have always worked hard after immigrating here from South Korea to provide for our family. However, didn’t prepare financially for the “what ifs” and life was turned upside down when my father passed away in an auto accident. That set the stage for what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. After graduating college, I immediately started at American Express Financial Advisors. Working 80 hours a week, I was determined to build a business and succeed in my career and help clients. I ended my first year as the top First Year Advisor in the company. I had the most amount of clients signed on, most production and ultimately was promoted to becoming a Manager within a couple of years. I built my team and helped new advisors accomplish what I had in my first couple of years. After a few years of Managerial duties, I realized that my passion still lied with direct client interactions and building relationships. In 2007, myself and two other partners started Monolithe Wealth Planning Group. We focus on Financial Planning and Investment Management for high net worth individuals and families. One of the partners and I have also become life partners and now we have two beautiful children! In 2010, we realized the needs of tax planning that goes hand in hand with successful Financial Planning. My husband acquired a Tax Planning firm to complement our Wealth Planning firm. Since then, the Tax Planning firm has evolved to solely focusing on business and tax planning for business owners and corporations.

15 years since first starting Monolithe Wealth Planning Group, I have a business that I am very proud of. Clients that have long-standing relationships since the beginning of when we started the firm. Clients that have transitioned from working to now enjoying their Retirement. I have watched clients’ children go from grade school to now being young adults in college and graduating college. I have helped clients plan for these large events in their lives and helped clients plan for the unexpected. Life is full of unexpected events…both good and hard…there are always things we cannot control, however, you can always plan for the best outcome and it makes the journey well worth it!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I started the firm when I was 27. Being a female Asian young woman in a male-dominated industry certainly had its challenges. However, I strongly believe the additional challenges that I faced with proving myself has made me into the confident Financial Advisor I am today. After my father passed away, at the age of 18 I had to help my mother with her hair salon and suddenly was thrust into running her salon’s books and financial records. This helped me to be an efficient business owner and look at how to best run a business from an operational and profitable standpoint.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Monolithe Wealth Planning Group?
We are a Financial and Wealth Planning Firm. Clients hire us to look at their overall financial situation from a holistic standpoint. Many people have assets, liabilities, cash, investments, and different goals however many fail to put it all together for the best outcome. We help clients put a Plan together to reach their goals of Financial Independence, Paying for College Education for their children, Estate Planning, Tax Planning and how that all ties together.

We are a fee-based firm and do not charge commissions. We are not product based but truly provide unbiased recommendations. And then we help execute on that Plan.

We manage assets for our clients to help achieve those goals discussed. We focus on creating portfolios that are aligned with their Financial Plan and their goals. We focus on investment strategies that cater to high net worth clients where the need for tax loss harvesting, diversification, retirement income planning and legacy planning is important. Each client is unique and needs are specialized. To be able to provide our clients the best service and customized plans, we do limit the number of clients we take on annually. Most of our clients are from referrals and we will take time in the discovery process to ensure that we will be a good fit for each other.
