Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Perren.
Hi Heather, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Being in the fitness world is never something I would’ve seen myself in. I went to college at University of Arizona and then transferred back to CSUN to get my teaching credential. I taught for LAUSD for a few years (and loved it!) until I got pregnant with triplets in 2010. I ended up on bed rest and had to stop teaching. I had my triplets in July of 2010. Dylan, Jake and Emma were born at 31 weeks are spent some time in the NICU, but were thankfully healthy. I decided to stay at home and not go back to teaching. About two years after they were born, I discovered Lagree Fitness.
I was looking for something a little more intense than the traditional Pilates workouts I had been doing and I fell in love immediately. I was taking classes daily at a studio in Porter Ranch. When the kids were about to turn 5, I was asked if I had ever thought about teaching Lagree, at which point I replied, “No!” I could’ve never imagined teaching fitness classes, on a mic, to other adults. The thought of it terrified me, yet I could see myself planning out the perfect routines, so I gave it some more thought. I ended up getting certified in May of 2015 and started teaching right after. The studio became my home away from home and the clients were my family.
Then in March of 2020, our studio was sold and two weeks later the pandemic hit. It was all bad timing and being obsessed with working out on the Lagree Megaformer, I had heard there were a few of the prototype versions of the Microformer left. This was designed to be the at home version of the machine used in studios. So I reached our to Sebastien Lagree and purchased the last original Microformer in March. I started teaching slider classes on zoom to clients and found a small group of people who owned the original Microformer and started teaching classes on that as well. By now, Lagree put out a rush production on the Microformer so by June the machines were being delivered and my client base for the Micro classes was growing. By July, I built my client list up to over 50 people.
During July, I partnered up with another instructor in Reno and we decided to merge our platforms to create our business, Lagreeingathome. We offer live classes on the Microformer 6 days a week and we have over 100 on demand classes in our video library. Through social media and marketing, we were able to grow our business exponentially in a short period of time and I am forever grateful for this opportunity. It allows me to keep teaching Lagree classes, which is my passion, and allows me to still connect to others, but now on a worldwide level as we have members in Ireland, Australia, Singapore, etc. We have plans to continue to grow our platform as more people continue to purchase the Microformers as the world is now embracing at home fitness.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When the pandemic began, everyone was lost and trying to figure out what they could do to stay afloat. It was difficult losing my job due to the pandemic, but I tried to find a positive outlook not just for myself but for my kids who also had to navigate their new virtual setting as well. So I shifted my mindset and found a way to continue doing what I love in this new virtual fitness world. Our business has had some glitches here and there that have been part of our learning curve, but every mistake has made us stronger and better.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Lagreeing at Home?
Lagreeing at a Home is a virtual fitness platform for anyone with a Lagree Microformer, but we also offer floor workout classes as well. We are the number one ranked Lagree Microformer virtual class platform. We offer over 90 on demand classes in our video library and six live classes a week. Myself and my business partner perform the workouts and talk you through the entire workout so that you can focus on form, alignment and pace. We recently brought in another instructor to put some classes on our site to offer even more variety for our clients. We also offer a private group for our members where they can discuss classes, moves, support each other and build a sense of community. We do lots of giveaways and we are always available for support. We have 15-20 floor classes as well for anyone looking for a Lagree style class but isn’t looking to purchase a Microformer. We pride ourself on the variety of our challenging and effective classes, our availability to our clients, and the community feels we’ve created which is so important in a virtual world.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is my family. They are my priority. This business started because we had to stay home and I needed to keep my family safe, but now I get to work from home and spend an unlimited amount of time with them as they are distance learning and this has become a blessing in disguise. Our family is closer than ever, and my husband, myself and the kids get to enjoy life together, safer at home, while still running a successful business and teaching Lagree!
