Community Highlights: Meet George Acheampong of Melanin Money & Capitalwize

Today we’d like to introduce you to George Acheampong.

Hi George, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I got started as a financial advisor back in 2011; I quickly realized that the industry lacked representation, and I wanted to be able to serve people that looked like me to remind them they are worthy of wealth. So, I started my own blog, then eventually started my own firm, and now I’m able to impact thousands of people of color on their journey to being first-generation wealth builders.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road. Trying to get people to understand the importance of saving and investing when everything around them is trying to get them to spend money is no easy feat. I have had many moments along the journey where I questioned if it was all worth it, but I stayed the course.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I have two main businesses. One business is designed to work one one one with successful entrepreneurs who are looking to turn business profits into personal wealth. This is a boutique service for business owners who are already making multiple 6 figures.

For everyone else, I created a financial education Platform that allows me to serve people at scale and meet them where they are. Our goal is to help 100,000 people of color achieve their 1st one million in Net Worth. We offer on-demand masterclasses and workshops and even access to a money coach 24/7. I think this really sets us apart from other financial education communities.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory was being able to buy a microwave for our household when I was just in elementary school. I used to make money washing cars and would save all of it, so even at an early age, I was financially responsible.
