Today we’d like to introduce you to Edith Ponciano.
Edith, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Born and raised in Los Angeles, my passion for interior design developed from a young age through exposure to design shows, blogs, and publications. While I was at FIDM, the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, I learned about a career in commercial interior design and was drawn to how it can positively impact people, organizations, and communities on many levels—this confirmed my calling in the field.
After graduating from FIDM, I interned at Gensler Los Angeles’ hospitality studio, where I worked on various hotel projects in the US and abroad. I transitioned over to the firm’s sports practice area, where I designed interiors for prominent venues such as Chase Center in San Francisco, Austin FC’s Q2 Stadium, and Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego.
With over 13 years of experience in the industry, I’ve learned the value of establishing strong client relationships and clear design ideas. This led me to found EP Atelier, a hospitality lifestyle interior design firm. At EP Atelier, we provide a holistic vision for each project and create spaces that embody and encapsulate our clients’ values, from concept to completion.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Building a successful career in interior design requires a combination of creativity, technical skills, and business acumen. Overcoming obstacles, such as balancing design vision with budget and timeline constraints, communicating effectively with clients and project stakeholders, and staying ahead of industry trends and developments, can be challenging. However, for those who are dedicated and willing to continuously learn and grow, the rewards can be tremendous.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about EP Atelier?
EP Atelier focuses on creating holistic and authentic hospitality spaces, including sports venues, hotels, and luxury vacation rental homes. We design with purpose, crafting interiors that embody culture, time, and place. Our aim is to create spaces that not only look beautiful, but also evoke emotions, shape memories, and create meaningful experiences. We believe design has the power to inspire and motivate with great stories and grand ideas.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Los Angeles is a unique and vibrant city with a rich cultural heritage and endless opportunities. I appreciate the diversity found within the different neighborhoods, its beautiful weather, and the innovative spirit rooted in its thriving arts and dining scenes. The city is a hub for innovation and creativity, making it a great place for professionals in the interior design industry. With its diverse architectural styles and unique design influences, Los Angeles continues to inspire and challenge me as a designer, making it a great place to live and work.
