Today we’d like to introduce you to Dominique Scott.
Hi Dominique, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am a 29 year old Los Angeles Native. I graduated from the University of Southern California. What a lot of people don’t know about me is that baking was my first love. While other children would watch cartoons I prefer watching the food network. As I grew up my interests shifted and I began to enjoy playing and learning the game of basketball. Upon finishing my education, I was blessed with the opportunity to continue working in sports but from a different angle. I committed to coaching and mentoring young athletes. This gave me a new found purpose and allowed me to influence and inspire other young kids with my story and skill. After years of coaching, I found a passion that I believe led me to my ultimate purpose. I am firm believer that when you are transparent with yourself, you unlock a whole new life. One that allows you to live to your fullest potential. (Even if it doesn’t seem like the easiest decision)
During the first stay-at-home order, I had the chance to be still, be thoughtful, and focus on what I wanted out of life. How could I bring delight to others’ lives? How can I be a positive, purposeful presence in my community? The answer? Ice Cream.
With a ton of help from my family and friends, I experimented. I played with countless flavors and landed on the ones that were close to my heart and home. The ice cream brought nostalgic feelings to my family and friends, and most importantly…happiness to those who needed it the most.
Within a year, I started off with pop ups and personally delivering pints of ice cream. Now that I have an Ice Cream Truck, I hope to bring joy to many people all over Los Angeles.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Just like any other start-up business, I had a few struggles along the way. Coming from a sports background, it was difficult to teach myself about an industry I had no clue about. Once I learned how to perfect the ice cream that I was making, I felt as though the hardest part was completed. Also, being someone who has always been behind the scenes, I’ve never really been comfortable putting myself out there so for the longest people didn’t know who was making the ice cream.
