Meet Yessica Sanchez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yessica Sanchez.

Yessica, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
My story begins in Cancun on Spring Break 1992 where my parents met. My mom had left Switzerland for a couple of months to study Spanish and that’s how she met my dad, a bartender in a disco. They fell in love and my mom returned back to Switzerland six years later with a husband and a daughter.

I’ve spent a fair amount of my life in Switzerland and although I am not a typical Swiss, I’ve noticed a lot of my “swissness” when I moved abroad.

I started performing at a very young age. I was always very curious about life and I had a lot of energy as a child. I participated in mini playback shows, I danced, I played soccer, I modeled and the list goes on. Growing up, my parents were extremely supportive. They drove me to every single competition or game, and they allowed me to be me in an environment where you could only dream as long as you were a child, but later in life, you would have to have “realistic goals”.

When I finished high school, I started getting serious about acting. I grew up believing that you’d always have to have a plan B, so I had that figured out first. I attended acting school, I booked some roles and I had an amazing life, but that wasn’t enough. So, I decided to pack my bags again and move to Los Angeles to study acting, and after a lot of ups and downs and back and forths, I managed to stay in this beautiful city of Angels.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am an actress, model, writer, and filmmaker. I tell stories through visuals. Whether it is to organize a shoot with talented photographers or to collaborate with different filmmakers, the story is mostly portrayed through visuals. I love writing and I love words, but I cherish the moments of silence. There is so much you can tell without saying anything.

I love when people interpret my work in different ways with different words and different approaches.
I want to inspire people with my acting and my films. I want them to think and open up a box of possibilities – ideas; things they would’ve never thought of themselves; or maybe just a push in the right direction. Because there is so much more to life than comfortability.

Do current events, local or global, affect your work and what you are focused on?
I strongly believe that the world needs artists now more than ever. People can find hope in art. But it’s not just that. Some of the most influential people are artists and we can contribute to make the world a better place.

But, of course, the world and the people in it also influence my art. I take a lot of inspiration from things that are happening around me. It’s a never-ending circle, and we give and we take.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
At the moment, I am working on a new project. However, I am going to publish all of my short films on www.yessisanchez.com.
You can support me by following me on Instagram (@yessisth) to stay updated about future projects.
