Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Mautner.
Rachel, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
With so many different forms of art, I knew I wanted to take the interior design industry by storm. At 19 years-old I started working on small scale condominiums, and within a few months, turned multimillion dollar homes.
As my portfolio began to build, I was recognized by a design firm in downtown Chicago, and ultimately was offered and accepted a position as the in-house designer. During my time there, I learned so much but resigned after six months because I was confident I could begin building my own brand.
Now, at 22 years-old, I have begun to build my own roster of clients throughout Chicago, L.A and Orange County.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
Interior design and architecture are forms of expression, both through the client and designer. The best way to describe my work is sophisticated yet comfortable. I like the spaces I design to be both aesthetically pleasing and functional for the day-to-day life of each client.
I became an interior designer to better people’s everyday lives. Depending on the clients’ needs, the scope of work ranges from anything as small as art installations, all the way to developing new homes from the ground up. That said, each design process is different.
One should know that with each home I design, I leave a small piece of myself behind. Creating a home, can be emotional process, as I take pride in each detail.
Do current events, local or global, affect your work and what you are focused on?
I firmly believe with the way the world is now, the role of the artist has changed. With the power of social media platforms, you can build a brand and expand your clientele much easier than pre-social media eras. For instance, Facebook has connected me with new clients, and Instagram has given me the following just by simply posting photos of my work and/or content that inspires me. This adds a new element of client acquisition, brand identity and awareness.
National events such as, High Point Market, and international events such as Maison&Objet, affects my work in ways that better it. These events broaden my product knowledge of some of the industries favorite brands.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
This form of art can only be seen in show houses, or my clients’ homes. But of course I share my finished work on all of my social media platforms. For some reason, before I release something new I become anxious. But I always receive and abundance of love and support.
Each day people support my work; whether it be by reposting a photo on Instagram or contacting me directly telling me they love what I did with a space.
