Today we’d like to introduce you to Simona Van Vliet.
Hi Simona, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
We started off as a small online jewelry store on Etsy selling crystal-related components to jewelry designers. The business took off quickly. Over the years, we’ve sold to thousands of jewelry designers around the world. We quickly realized that we needed to go directly to the source. We started traveling the globe working with minerals at the source, cutting, polishing, and designing our own jewelry components. Focused on small crystal jewelry, we were surrounded and inspired by larger crystal specimens everywhere we went. This was the origin of Rock Paradise Wholesale. We started wholesaling crystals to artists and stores across the globe. One of the many artists that we work with inspired and convinced us to open our retail brick-and-mortar store in Canoga Park est. 2019. The Rock Paradise brick-and-mortar store is much more than just a crystal store. It is a large crystal lifestyle shop, with an emphasis on the arts & artists.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing is a “smooth road”. We have had quite a few challenges that we have been lucky enough to overcome with hard work and determination. Due to the fact that we pride ourselves on customer service and customer first, we have been able to retain a large percentage of our business. When Covid started and we shut down, our online retail business, rockparadise.com, accelerated and kept us very busy and distracted throughout that difficult time. When the store re-opened, people were in need of service of the spiritual and metaphysical worlds, and it is an honor to be able to provide that service.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What we are most proud of is that we travel directly to the source and we work with vendors who are conscious and ethical in what they do and how they treat the product and the employees, including recycling of water, and being respectful of the environment.
We turn away more than we work with in order to bring the most consciously sourced crystals to market.
