Today we’d like to introduce you to Samuel Oppong.
Hi, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I graduated with my bachelor’s degree at Washington State University and master’s degree from Concordia University Chicago. I am an Actor, Investor, and Philanthropist. My story started with being born in Tema, Ghana, to Samuel Oppong Sr. and Irene Oppong. His father is a business coach and teacher, while his mother is a business owner and caregiver. His grandmother passed away three days before he was born. He is the oldest of three siblings.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way.
When he was born, he was separated from his parents due to having malaria and Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. He later recovered and moved to New York City, New York, when he was two years old. When he was three years old, he moved back to Accra, Ghana, and lived with his family members due to getting sick again. When he was four years old, he lived in Bronx, New York. He discovered his talents in acting and singing by getting dragged to a musical theater in Albany, New York. He later started learning how to play the piano and performed his first acting gig in Lion King, playing Simba as a five-year-old kid. As he completed that performance, he chose that as his career focus. His first commercial was with Target back in 2000.
Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would say carrying on the pressure and privilege of growing up in Ghana and the United States has been rewarding. The harder part was trying to connect with others from my culture because I lived in America ever since I was 2 years old and life going to public school has been challenging compared to private school where I was the only black and African-American guy in my school.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
In 2018, I launched a campaign with the goal to invest in 1000+ companies in 20-25 years. I am a 2x Forbes Under 30 Finalist (2013, 2020) and Inc 30 Under 30 Nominee as an Investor. Before becoming an actor, I spent six years working in various sports organizations such as USA Basketball, Washington State Athletics, National Hockey League, San Francisco 49ers, and National Football League. As a Philanthropist, I participate in several philanthropy projects such as Thirst Project, RAINN, and Pencil Promise.
I am CEO and Co-Founder of Unleash Your Potential, which focuses on making a difference in other people’s lives. I am a member of Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity and the National Football Foundation. Overall, I have two goals. The first goal is to make my parents and family proud. The second goal is to become a better overall person in career and in life.
Lastly, I am doing job interviews to be a TV Host and Broadcaster. I also wrote a book called “You can overcome anything” where stories will resonate with you regardless of where you are in your life journey. By sharing their own life experiences, habits, and mind obstacles they had to overcome, you will grow and learn that you too Can Overcome Anything.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
I would say the ability to follow my own path and create it because I don’t need anybody permission to pursue the life I want. I also say playing sports because sports opened a lots of doors for me and The hard part is having a game plan and getting started. One of the things I struggled with was how to adjust to normal life and the actor life.
