Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Aos. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Company founder, Jennifer Aos, studied fine art at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and also studied music before earning a degree in interior design. She had a decade-long career in the luxury furniture, fashion and art industry at Brunschwig & Fils, Cantoni and International Market Square before launching her interior design business in 2004. Recently, she started creating one-of-a-kind art using reclaimed luxury fabric samples and other discarded, up-cycled items. In her leisure time, she enjoys art events, hiking, yoga, dancing, music, wine tasting and a vegan, eco-friendly lifestyle.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I don’t know any business owner who has had a completely smooth road. Fortunately, I made it through The Great Recession, divorce, two relocations, a global pandemic and supply chain issues. Hopefully, the road will be much smoother going forward. Other challenges include finding a steady stream of projects throughout the year. Typically, all clients need my services at the same time or not at all. When I am overbooked, I get more work. When I really need projects and my schedule is clear, people are not ready yet. This makes it difficult to take vacations or plan for the future. For these reasons, I will soon be selling products too and not just relying on remodeling and design services, which are a specific niche and depend on many factors lining up.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We are dedicated to specifying sustainable, eco-friendly materials, supporting local businesses and sourcing the latest cutting-edge products. We are a California Green Certified Business and LEED accredited. We help our clients improve their home’s aesthetic and functional appeal, make the most of their real estate investment while saving them time and money.
Projects include new construction, remodels, historical renovation, live/work lofts, public spaces, luxury real estate staging and set design for special events, TV and film. We manage your entire project including custom window treatments, lighting design, space planning, remodeling, budget planning and procurement of art and furnishings.
Recently, Jennifer also started creating one-of-a-kind art using reclaimed luxury fabric samples and other up-cycled items.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I have a lifetime of creative inspiration stored up inside as I have been in the industry for so long and spent 12 years in college studying various forms of creative art. I probably have more ideas than I can ever implement. I occasionally read AD, Dezeen, Elle Decor and follow hundreds of artists and designers on Instagram. I used to be a big fan of HGTV but it’s too much like my everyday work now. I prefer to escape with a movie or TV series unrelated to interior design.
