Today we’d like to introduce you to Hsin Hua (Anna) Yang.
Hi Anna, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m Anna, a Los Angeles-based motion designer, illustrator, and graphic designer D. I started my creative path by trusting my guts and giving my passion an opportunity. In 2017, I followed my passion for appreciating and liking ‘beautiful things’ to the Savannah College of Art and Design, where I started the journey to become a professional designer in the creative industry.
Motion came as a surprise. It caught my attention right away, impressed me with the movement in design – the charm of motion graphics. I heard the call and immediately fell for it. With motion being my focus, I continued learning graphic design, illustration, and other variety of creative disciplines on the side just so I can express a unique voice with my works.
Four years later, I joined Brand New School as an intern. I enjoy working with versatile directors, designers, and animators at Brand New School. The experiences helped me grow and further shaped my skills, so I’m now a Freelance Junior Designer with them!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Becoming a motion designer is never a smooth road, and design itself takes time and consumes brain cells, sometimes even sweat and tears. Looking back, I was never the most talented person in class, and I struggled a lot with coming up creative ideas, designing and animating, finishing before the deadline. I tried my best to create things, things that I am passionate about. All the creative blocks I encountered are part of the process, and those experiences made me who I am today.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a freelance junior motion designer who specialized in motion design, graphic design, and illustration. When people ask me what sets me apart from others, I think of two words — flexible and diverse. I am flexible in styles, design directions and diverse in projects and their different visual approaches. Most of my works are a mix between motion, graphic design, and illustration. The chemical reaction between the three provides me with the ability to dive deeper into this motion wonderland.
How do you define success?
Everyone has a different definition of success. It can be reaching a goal or accomplishing what they set out to do, or completely different. To me, success is all about perception – whether you are enjoying the works you are doing or not. It influences your motivation and drives towards pursuing your dream and it affects your decisions in life.
I see success as a part of growing up and experiencing more. Success is not a destination; in fact, the idea of success is the fuel that moves me forward and allows me to improve my skills. I am very grateful that I started my root in the creative industry, it is what I’m passionate about, and yet no matter the road will be bumpy or smooth, the truth is, I will enjoy and put myself out there to adapt, learn, and enjoy.
