Today we’d like to introduce you to Glenn Deneve.
Glenn, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started out as a hairstylist just like my mom who had a very successful hair salon in Europe. My dad had an art gallery and frame store also in Europe. When I moved to Beverly Hills in the Spring of 1997to work with the world-renowned Hair stylist Cristophe on Beverly Drive, I took up a paintbrush in my free time on the weekends and started painting as a hobby. Soon after, my wealthy clients from the hair salon found out about my artwork and started buying pieces and spreading the word to their friends and so until today, I share my time between doing hair and painting which is a perfect balance and thereby, I end up doing exactly what both of my parents were doing.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As an entrepreneur, there is never a smooth road, some of the struggles were finding the right balance between doing hair and making paintings, which one do I like most? Can I sustain my business by painting more? Do I let go of my hair business and just focus on painting? I have build up a solid clientele over the last 25 years and they are still the ones who support my art business, if not for them it would be really hard. I have tried many things and spend fortunes on social media and so many other things which for me personally have not worked at all. People need to know me on a personal level and when they like me and my personality and love my story and paintings then that is the point they buy one (or more) of my pieces. For me, it’s about personal connections all the rest has failed.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in creating art pieces that give you a warm and fuzzy feeling when you look at them and leave you with a happy feeling because of the mostly bright and happy colors I use. I am proud that I made a very good living out of the 2 things I love doing most.
What sets me apart from others is that I am lucky enough to have been working with very influential clients in my hair business and that these people gave me the opportunity to become successful in my art business and bring me to a much higher level then that would have been possible doing it by myself.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
That I love gardening.
