Check Out Eden Alpert’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eden Alpert.

Eden, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m a native of the westside of Los Angeles. My father is the legendary musician, executive, artist and philanthropist Herb Alpert. I was raised in and around the music industry musicians. It was my world growing up. One of my first jobs was with a music publishing company.

I studied at FIDM here in Los Angeles before moving to Chicago where I earned my degree in fashion. I got a job working at California Pizza Kitchen, their first locale in Chicago. It was there that I first worked in the restaurant business.

This would be incredibly fortuitous when my father finally realized his vision of opening a place where local musicians could perform that had also had wonderful food, a sexy warm ambiance with the absolute best acoustics. Herb Alpert’s Vibrato Grill & Jazz in Bel Air was built by a musician for musicians. When the doors opened, I was the hostess. One night my father pulled me aside and told me that he loved the way I worked the room and made every guest feel like a VIP. It was then that he asked me to be his managing partner. My love of the restaurant business, combined with my love of music makes this truly my happy place.

Cut to sixteen years later, we are the premiere live music supper club in Los Angeles. As a matter of fact, we often have guests who traveled near and far to experience our vibe. We are tucked away at the Glen Centre at the top of Beverly Glen in Bel Air. We feel very secluded in the hills — it feels miles and miles away from LA, yet only a 10 minute drive from Beverly Hills and five from Sherman Oaks.

Throughout the year’s many famous musicians have graced our stage from Stevie Wonder to Tony Bennett, from Seal to John Mayer from Tom Jones to my father Herb Alpert. It’s truly a spectacular spot. I love meeting new people and especially love bringing such joy to their lives.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The restaurant business is filled with challenges and consistent obstacles thrown our way. Add live music to the mix and everyday there’s a new hurdle to overcome. The key is to surround yourself with great people and that’s what we’ve done. From our management team to front and back of house. Many of our servers have been there for years and years, some for over a decade.

Certainly one of the biggest challenges we faced was our response to the pandemic and outdoor dining. The footprint of our restaurant is entirely inside. We were able to take over the back parking lot and build an incredible outdoor experience which we called Vibrato Under the Stars. The space was just gorgeous. We built a completely new restaurant and performance space and dressed it with trees, a beautiful lighting design and topped it off with an Air Stream bar. After months of being completely shut down, we created a space for fine dining and live music in what I jokingly called The Garden of Eden. That was a huge challenge that we not only met, but we surpassed even our own expectations.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My other absolute passion is philanthropy, specifically dedicated to cancer research, health, education and family services. In that, I sit on four non-profit boards: the Concern Foundation, Vista Del Mar, OmniPeace Foundation and the Alesia Alpert Foundation. I was raised that if you have the means, you must give back. If I can make one small difference before I leave this planet, I will feel like I’ve truly accomplished my mission — a mission passed on me by my father.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I take pride in maintaining a positive outlook on life. I love and am committed to continual personal development and living a healthy and fit lifestyle. I have this knack of being a natural connector of people, products and trends. I love entrepreneurship and have a couple of exciting things coming soon, as they say. Oh, and I am co-producing my first feature film. I have a lot to be grateful for — my wonderful husband, Brian. My daughter Kylie. And my incredible parents Herb and Lani for whom I am constantly motivated to live the best life that they taught me to live.

Hi, Eden! Thanks for sharing your story. I know your Dad through Derek as I’m involved with Concern. Also, I remember your Dad from my childhood. Did you go to Victory Blvd Elementary School? I did in the 60’s and have memories of him playing at PTA events.

What a wonderful article. I am of the era of Herb Alpert in his prime, and here is where I learn that he and his daughter have a special restaurant/entertainment venue nestled right between the valley and the westside.

I look forward to making reservations soon.
