Check Out Dyve’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dyve.

Hi Dyve, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
After finding out music was my ultimate passion in college, I decided that was what I wanted to do as a career. I went on a tour for three months where I lived in my car, completely broke and trying to make music work. As tough as it was, it didn’t stop me from my dreams. Shortly after the tour, I ended up in Seattle to further pursue a music career. I had heard it was a huge music hub, a “miniature Los Angeles”. After two years and little music connections made (due to the lack of producers / artists), I needed to make a big change. I received a phone call from my brother the same week my lease was up in Seattle. He offered me a place to stay while I figured out a job. With no money, I sold my car to buy a plane ticket, packed what little I had, and moved to LA. LA helped me grow tremendously as an artist and as a person. Through self-development and high aspirations, I began creating the life I wanted to live in this new big city.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Up until this year, I thought that the hardest thing I’ve been through for my career was living in my car for three months completely broke. However, this last year was more challenging that I could have imagined. Just when I was at the peak of my physical, mental, and financial goals; one thing after another hit my life. I tore my ACL/Meniscus, had two knee surgeries, our 3rd roommate moved out right as rent was raised, I lost my job (due to my injuries), our apartment flooded, my main producer had to step down from the album we were working on, my car broke down twice, and the hardest of them all was losing my grandmother unexpectedly. This last year was tough; you could say I slipped. Drank more than I should have, never worked on my music, and for the first time in my life I felt a bit depressed. I’d say the only good thing that came out of 2022 is that I feel more motivated than ever in 2023 to make something of my life and my career. I’m ready.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I get to wear a lot of hats in the music industry. As an independent artist, I’d probably say that I have to wear a lot of hats. I help with production, I write all of my own music, I sound engineer my vocals, run all of the marketing, constantly create content, social media operations, promotion, submissions, etc. I could go on for a while. End of the day, it’s a lot more than just making a song, to me that’s the easy part.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
I have a lot of favorite childhood memories. I was blessed with an amazing family and friends. The first thing that comes to mind though; my grandparents made it to EVERY single game, musical, dance performance, you name it. They were there for me, alongside my parents, my entire life. So I feel their love within my motivation. They help me continue on my road to success.
