Today we’d like to introduce you to Neda Disney.
Neda, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I’m from Los Angeles, spent a few years in England as a young child and NY for college. I had always written.
I was a reporter for public radio where my writing was honed and a costumer before I married into a family with social responsibilities and had a daughter, both keeping me busy.
I had been working on my first book on and off and over time it grew into Planting Wolves and was published.
I’m writing my next fiction novel which is very fun to form.
I’m also learning to weld. I’m 5’4” and 106 lbs. and the sparks of welding make me occupy much more space than my body usually does. It’s an armor of fire which makes me feel big. Welding steel to steel creates permanence and that concept is an aspect of the book I’m writing.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I’m a writer. My first novel is called Planting Wolves. Here’s the synopsis:
.A writer in purgatory, a housewife who time travels, a production assistant with stigmata, a needy AA sponsor, a ridiculous sex addict, a movie star with issues, a drunk who ruined 2 livers and an abusive costumer who gets what’s coming to her.
Connected yet so alone.
The message is about absurdity and longing. About isolation, greed, hope and ultimately being human. It’s dark comedy with magic realism thrown in.
My entire pushing inspiration is a Hemingway quote:
‘Write what hurts- clear and hard’
How can artists connect with other artists?
Be social. Go out there. Go to parties and long walks in the city. Talk to as many people as you can. I don’t believe good art can be made from isolation and a self-feeding brain.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
My book can be found on Amazon, Barnes and Noble and certain independent book stores in Los Feliz (east of Hollywood by Griffith Park) and Downtown.
