Today we’d like to introduce you to Jules Whelpton.
Jules, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
My artist story began in grade school, where I was presented a violin and electric bass. Little did I know, those instruments would carry me through a music degree from Humboldt State University and the beginnings of a music career in Southern California. Since then, I’ve gradually been growing my fan base around town, as well as around the country, touring with various Rock and Roll acts. I learned soon enough how to meet and relate to audience members, who would eventually become my fans. These fans have not only supported many of my musical endeavors but have also led me to obtain music students of my own. Through the course of action, I’ve become a part-time music instructor and musician.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
My art is through the power of listening. Primarily, I create original music with my band, Fairplay, and I also write and cover some of the greatest rock songs with the help of other artists such as Roni Lee. Whenever I perform or compose, I want to take the listener or observer on a journey. When they take this journey, I want them to feel my emotions, and carry on my pure joy for what I do on stage or in my recordings. If more individuals are inspired to create and share, the less time they have for negativity in their lives. In short, my message for the people is to feel inspired to make music, and try something new in their lives, whether it’s art or not. They should know that it’s just as important to understand the music I perform than to reproduce.
What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
I think success is defined as finding the best qualities of your situation and admiring them. These qualities may take work to find, but once an artist does discover them, it keeps them moving and inspired to create more material. No matter how much success may be achieved, the beauty of art is limitless.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
