Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Pham.
Jennifer, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I’ve always had a creative side but growing up Asian, my parents always encourage structure and stability. After finishing grad school and working my way up in my career, I found my creative side feeling unfulfilled.
I ordered my first calligraphy kit off of Etsy and would play around with it when I got home. I would doodle while at work and soon decided to start my IG account as a way to motivate myself to practice. I worked on a few pieces for friends and family for their events and soon got noticed by others.
I’m still a newbie but I’m loving the process of building my portfolio and doing something that makes me happy.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I’m a calligrapher and designer. I work on calligraphy pieces for events, design wedding invitation suites, and create unique greeting cards. I love to work with different materials and get creative with paper. My style tends to be simple and clean, but bright and bold in color. I love incorporating color as much as possible because color pieces just bring a smile to my face and I want my work to make people happy.
The sterotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
I don’t have great advice for struggling artists since I am only working on my creative business part-time. But I think, if you are doing something you love, it is worth the struggle.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
The best way to see my work would be my Instagram. I post there regularly — things I’m working on, things that inspire me. My portfolio is on my website and my line of greeting cards is available on my Etsy.
