Meet Angelo Pentaris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelo Pentaris.

Angelo, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
My start with music was a rather unconventional one when I was around 5 years old, I started piano as a form of physical therapy. I was born with a condition called cerebral palsy tetraplegia, My parents were told by multiple doctors that I was never going to be able to use my arms or legs. The piano was just a fun way to make my fingers more mobile.

Over the years, my passion for music continued but as my physical condition improved, I was more attracted to sports because being active was not something I took for granted, it was something I had to earn through intense daily physical therapy.

Everything changed when I was 14 years old. Out of the blue, I suffered an injury that forced me to be in a wheelchair. Unable to do all the sports that I loved, music came to the rescue, once again because that’s when I discovered drums.

Drums became my biggest reason to overcome any physical challenge or injury and made me want to be the best version of myself.

After a few eye-opening experiences when I moved to Los Angeles (2014), I realized I wanted to share my story with as many people as I could, not only as a drummer but also as a motivational speaker.

We’d love to hear more about your music. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
In all my projects, my goal is to inspire others to achieve their full potential and live a fulfilling life. Currently, I am working on my first solo album titled “Reflection”. The goal of this project is to connect two of my passions, motivational speaking and music. Every song on the album has a positive message behind it which I elaborate on before performing the music live in a series of videos. I hope this project empowers people and gives them the strength and courage to be themselves and follow their passion in life.

Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national or international events and issues affect your art?
The role of an artist has definitely changed because through social media fans can follow the daily life and habits of their favorite artists. If an artist has a large enough platform they can affect their audience drastically. I think an artist shouldn’t underestimate their influence and strive to spread positivity and inspiration in any way they can. My music is a reflection of who I am and what my perspective on life is, so events that change my perspective consequently change my music.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
My new album will be available on all streaming platforms. People can support me by sharing my work on social media as well as giving me opportunities to share my story in person.
