Art & Life with Oscar Malo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Oscar Malo.

Oscar, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I was born in Guatemala, came to the US when I was 14 years old. It was a very hard transition for me and my younger brother. My story is like everyone else’s searching for the “American Dream”, my mother worked hard to support us. Attending school was a challenge of its own, teachers – one in particular – who supported me, I thank God for putting her on my path.

I am the father of two amazing children. I’ve come to realize that time is the most precious and valuable commodity we have. It is also the one thing we can never stop nor get back. Because of this, I believe I need to capture the milestones of their lives through beautiful and thoughtful images that serve as a living scrapbook of our lives.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I became interested in photography at a very young age, I clearly remember my mother taking photos of us with a film camera. I still have some of those photos. I am almost 40 and I have to say, photography is my love language. Getting the right shot for me is like winning the lottery over and over again. Being a landscape and portrait photographer is a privilege.

I want to inspire others to go out and discover the beauty that this world has to offer.

Every location I shoot at has its own beauty, every person I photograph has their own story, and when you put them together, the results are amazing. I have learned to photograph not only with my eyes, but also with my feelings and the understanding of each situation. It’s very important. I take pride in what I create.

Any advice for aspiring or new artists?
Never stop shooting. Shoot, shoot, shoot – you will only get better by the day. Don’t be discouraged by bad criticism, but welcome constructive criticism. Hang out with people that are going to help you grow and are in the same field, if possible.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I encourage you to check my Facebook page. My Instagram has daily posts. Some days I’m out shooting in the desert with the kids, the next day I’ll be shooting a wedding. Either way, check me out – that would mean a lot to me.

Support my work by sharing with your friends, in hopes that they can also dream of exploring or become the next Ansel Adams. If you really want to support my exploring, buy a print. That means the world to me.
