Today we’d like to introduce you to Mortem .
Mortem, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I’m from North Hollywood, Ca originally. But throughout my childhood, my family and I moved around plenty times. We just weren’t financially stable. From family and friends houses to motels and shelters. One of the few things that took my mind off of my situation was always drawing. It was a seed planted early on, and it’s grown to be a bigger part of my life now because of my passion for art now. Drawing and doodling got me into painting, photography & more. Plus my passion for it made gravitate towards amazing people that have the same passion. I don’t really have a certain medium. I’m trying out a little bit of everything.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I don’t have a certain medium. I’m into drawing, painting, digital art, and photography. But I have a brand called Duum Ugly. I named it duum ugly because of the way I grew up. Living like that will make you feel dumb and ugly just because of the way society is. But with that name it made me want to make more art that’s thought-provoking, catching your eyes, or inspiring you in some way.
Do you think conditions are generally improving for artists? What more can cities and communities do to improve conditions for artists?
Life has gotten easier for artists when it comes to having access to more tools to better their craft as well as become entrepreneurs with their art. I think artists should get together and throw events like my friends from the Red Futon did. It was like a workshop event where certain artists spent their time giving fellow artist advice for them if they were choosing something within art as their career path. They took headshots for free and showed them how to market their work better. Those kind of things would better the art community.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I currently only have Instagram. So you can go to my personal @moreduum or @duumugly. If you see any art you like, you can always dm me for prints or even just comment on how the art makes you feel.
